DETROIT – Jan. 26, 2005 – The Buick Scramble has announced that Orlando’s Eagle Creek Golf Club and Celebration’s Mystic Dunes Golf Club have been selected as new host courses for the 2005 Buick Scramble National Championships in Orlando, Oct. 13-16.
Eagle Creek and Mystic Dunes will join four returning courses from the 2004 Buick Scramble National Championships – The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club at Grande Lakes Resort (tournament headquarters); Orange County National’s Crooked Cat and Panther Lake Courses and Celebration Golf Club.
“With the addition of Eagle Creek and Mystic Dunes, the Buick Scramble National Championships will take place on six of the premier golf venues in Orlando,” said Larry Peck, golf marketing manager for Buick. “We’re sure everyone will enjoy playing these great courses.”
Tiger Woods is scheduled to serve as the honorary chairman of the Buick Scramble for a fourth consecutive season. Woods will appear in all tournament marketing and promotional materials for the 2005 Buick Scramble, and is scheduled to appear at the national championships on Oct. 16 to present the trophies to the winning teams.
“I have enjoyed my role as honorary chairman of this great tournament the past few years,” said Woods, who has an endorsement agreement with Buick. “I look forward to being part of the excitement of the national championships in October.”
Eagle Creek Golf Club opened its doors in May of 2004. The facility features the only-par-73 layout in Central Florida, and was rated four-stars in a recent review by Travel & Leisure Golf Magazine. A Ron Garl / Howard Swan design, Eagle Creek Golf Club is an Audobon International Silver Signature Course.
Mystic Dunes Golf Club, rated four-stars by Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play,” in 2004, is a Gary Koch-designed par-71 layout located in Celebration.
The 2005 Buick Scramble will kick-off with local championship tournaments starting in February. Open to amateur golfers of all ages and skill levels, participants with certified USGA Handicap Indexes compete as four-person teams in a scramble-type format. The local winners advance, along with their respective host PGA Professional, to one of 104 PGA Sectional (regional) Championships. The sectional winners advance to the national championships in Orlando in October.
The Buick Scramble offers first class treatment of its participants, families and guests during national championships week. A total of 72-holes of tournament golf and a lavish Buick party are among many of the attractions that are in store for PGA Professionals, amateurs and their families who advance to the national championships.
The Buick Scramble, entering its 22nd season as the world’s largest amateur golf tournament, is sanctioned by the PGA of America. The tournament is run by Momentum in Birmingham, Mich.
The official car of The PGA of America and the PGA Tour, Buick is title-sponsor of three PGA Tour events and presenting sponsor of the PGA Club Professional Championship.
