LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Southern Nevada is the home of about 70 golf courses, and the Southern Nevada Golf Association (SNGA) is the governing body for amateur golf in the area. The organization oversees golf course ratings, organizes more than 30 amateur golf events, and also operates the Southern Nevada Golf Hall-of-Fame in addition to various other efforts to make the game of golf better in Southern Nevada. Recently, the SNGA has selected respected PGA of America pro Nicole Dutt-Roberts to lead the organization to new heights and build on the tradition and foundation that has been created since the inception in 1967.
“I am very pleased and honored to be selected for this challenge, and I look forward to working with a committed board and team to rejuvenate this organization and create a dynamic and enjoyable experience for all local Las Vegas golfers,” says Dutt-Roberts. “The biggest message that we want to send to the Las Vegas golf community is that we want people to get involved in the SNGA, and to join us in our mission of growing and improving the game. We have many different opportunities for golfers to get involved from becoming course raters to rules officials to serving on the board as a golf course representative.”
There are currently more than 14,000 SNGA members—if you have a USGA GHIN handicap at a Las Vegas golf course you are a member—and many play in net, championship and senior tournaments at many Las Vegas golf courses throughout the year. The SNGA provides complete all event organization in addition to the volunteer rules officials and course markers. The organization also implements several USGA qualifying events annually, giving high-level amateurs in the area a chance to play themselves into the US Amateur, US Senior Open, US Open, and other top, national events.
“Nicole is bringing a new enthusiasm and discipline to the position and organization, and she is already making a very big impact,” says SNGA President Brady Exber. “She is a terrific asset for the organization and we, as a volunteer board, look forward to working with her well into the future. She is the best person for the job and we’re lucky to have her on the team.”
The SNGA is actively seeking volunteers. If you are interested please call 702.458.4653 or visit the association website at www.snga.org. You will be helping a great cause and will also have the opportunity to play top Las Vegas golf courses and possibly earn your way to the top amateur and professional golf tournaments in the country.
