PGA Professionals offering free lessons at Mets Spring Training

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- With spring fast approaching, golf’s Florida Swing and baseball’s Spring Training seasons are in full swing throughout the Sunshine State. To celebrate, PGA Professionals from the PGA Learning Center in Port St. Lucie, Fla., will offer complimentary 10-minute golf lessons to fans attending select New York Mets Spring Training games at nearby Tradition Field.

The instruction will be presented during games against: the World Champion Boston Red Sox on March 10; American League Central Champion Cleveland Indians on March 19; and the Baltimore Orioles on March 20. Complimentary lessons will also be given monthly during the St. Lucie Mets minor league season.

Fans will have an opportunity to brush up on their golf swing through lessons from PGA Professional instructors based at the nearby PGA Learning Center. They can also watch a series of golf instructional television segments that feature PGA Professionals from both the PGA Learning Center and PGA Golf Club on the large outfield video screen prior to numerous games throughout the baseball season.

“The PGA Learning Center is proud of the instruction we will showcase for baseball fans attending games here in Port St. Lucie,” said Bob Baldassari, PGA general manager of PGA Village, which encompasses the PGA Golf Club, PGA Learning Center and PGA Historical Center. “This presents a wonderful opportunity for beginning golfers to learn the initial basics of playing the game and for more advanced players to discover the finer points of improving their game. After the ballgame, we invite everyone to drive the very short distance to the state-of-the-art PGA Learning Center to practice and refine their games, as well as play some rounds of golf nearby on the PGA Golf Club’s three Championship courses designed by Tom Fazio and Pete Dye.”

Public address announcements will also be made throughout the Grapefruit League Season about the “PGA Golf Club Doubleheader,” where fans who present their Mets Spring Training ticket stub at the PGA Golf Club -- ranked as one of the “75 Best Golf Resorts in North America” by Golf Digest -- will receive a $25 discount off rounds played between 7 a.m.-8 a.m. Additional promotions announced during the games include Junior Golf Clinics for $25 during early release days from school for kids ages 7-16; and two separate PGA of America Junior Golf Schools for $99 each from April 1-2 and April 3-4 for ages 7-16, as well.*

PGA Village banners along each bullpen will be displayed, and the facility’s new logo will appear on-screen during all 82 major and minor league Mets gets played this year.
