Waters course tipped for Top 50 ranking

Jan. 19, 2005 – Champion Australian professional golfer, Craig Parry hit his first shot across the 15th fairway of the Kooindah Waters golf course on the New South Wales Central Coast last week, and tipped the course for a ranking among the Top 50, possibly Top 20, golf courses in Australia.

The 18-hole championship standard wetlands golf course will be the focus of the Kooindah Waters Residential Golf Resort in Wyong, a development of 252 homes and a 100 plus room resort with day spa, set to blend the best of coastal living and the natural environment, with the ever popular leisure activity of golf.

"The natural wetlands of the 85 hectare site have been incorporated into the course design with numerous wetland swales and native vegetation, ensuring that the character of the site is retained," said Mr Craig Parry.

"The magic of the Kooindah Waters course is that it will be ever changing. As the climate changes with the seasons, so will the course, which is essential to challenge the serious golfer and appeal to the social player. I have no doubt that Kooindah Waters will become one of the Top 50 courses in Australia, possibly Top 20," Mr Parry said.

Construction on the Kooindah Waters course progressed well throughout 2004, with the 13th, 14th and 15th fairways now almost complete and the scheduled mid-2006 opening of the course, on target.

"The Central Coast is one of Australia's fastest growth areas. Within commuting distance of Sydney and boasting a relaxed coastal lifestyle, it is the ideal location for a golf course estate," according to John Sidoti, General Manager of CPG Developments, the major shareholder of Clarendon Resort Housing, the company developing the site.

Craig Parry has placed his expertise and influence behind the project, accepting the role of design consultant to the $200 million project. He has worked closely with renowned golf course architect Ross Watson to create a challenging, unique layout.

Construction of the golf course commenced in April 2004, starting with the 15th fairway. Grass has been laid on a large portion of the course and will be grown in throughout 2005. An irrigation lake has been constructed on site. No town water will be used to irrigate the course, instead bore water and in the future rainwater captured from the roofs of housing, will be used.

Troon Golf has been appointed to manage the golf course, bringing its experience in prestige golf course management to the project. Troon Golf currently manages over 140 golf courses in 14 countries.

Numerous freestanding homes have been designed specifically for the Kooindah Waters Residential Golf Resort development. The golf course will embody eco-design principles, and careful site planning has ensured that most homes will capture stunning golf course vistas.

Homes are expected to sell for between AUS $575,000 and AUS $780,000. Six display homes are scheduled to be open for inspection in April 2005. The golf course is scheduled for an official opening in early to mid 2006, ahead of the resort, which is scheduled for opening later in 2006.
