Travel Golf.com is proud to announce Mark Nessmith, a former publications editor with the PGA of America, is taking over as managing editor of the world’s most read travel golf network. Nessmith gives the industry leader a powerful editorial commander and will operate out of TravelGolf.com’s first full-time European office.
Nessmith will oversee TravelGolf’s operations from a newly-created office in Prague, Czech Republic, giving the network an even stronger foothold in European golf . This office provides an easy springboard for trips to cover the golf hot spots of Scotland, Ireland and England as well as the rest of the continent.
As managing editor, Nessmith coordinates almost every aspect of the 40-plus-site network. It is a job he’s well prepared for, bringing a wealth of management experience in both newspapers and the golf world. Nessmith most recently served as managing editor of The Prague Post, transforming the influential English language newspaper.
At The Prague Post, Nessmith expanded and refocused the paper’s business coverage, turning it into a must-read for decision makers. He also put in columns on Czech politics and Eastern Union affairs that proved to be very popular with the paper’s readers. TravelGolf is excited to have this kind of innovator at the helm of its revamped, strengthened editorial department.
Nessmith is no stranger to the unique demands of a golf publication. He worked as publications editor of the PGA for five years, running PGA Magazine, the oldest golf journal in the U.S.
He now joins an editorial staff that’s also added National Golf Editor Tim McDonald and West Coast Bureau Chief Chris Baldwin in the last year. McDonald is seasoned newspaper reporter, who’s covered everything from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the Iditarod to the Exxon Valdez oil spill and has been both a lead sports columnist and a foreign correspondent for the Associated Press. Baldwin won six Associated Press Sports Editor awards in six years in the ultra-competitive New York-area market and carries more than a decade of newspaper experience.
TravelGolf.com President and CEO Robert Lewis feels that Nessmith’s hiring completes the overhaul he undertook to give the only golf publication with the guts to tell its readers the truth an even stronger journalistic voice. This continues TravelGolf tradition of always moving forward and staying two giant steps ahead of its competitors.
“With Mark’s hiring we’re not only getting an outstanding, experienced leader who comes with the glowing praise of one of golf’s institutions, we’re also taking our strongest step yet in increasingly our already formidable European coverage,” Lewis said. “This is the kind of win-win that keeps TravelGolf.com at the forefront of the industry.”
Nessmith, a Florida native and Florida State graduate, became interested in TravelGolf.com because of this fearless approach to honest golf journalism.
"At first glance, it was clear to me that the TravelGolf.com/WorldGolf.com network produces publications that stand out in the world of golf media,’’ Nessmith said. “The company's focus has always been on serving the reader first, with straight talk and honest reviews.
“The combination of golf and a commitment to honesty, accuracy and fresh writing made this a natural fit for me. I'm tremendously excited to be taking the reins of a talented team.”
