Montgomerie Links Vietnam reports construction of clubhouse

QUANG NAM, Vietnam -- With sights set on providing an off-course experience on par with the spectacular collection of golf holes taking shape here, The Montgomerie Links Vietnam commenced construction on a 3,000-square-meter clubhouse destined to become an architectural marvel and Da Nang area hot spot.

Perched on the highest part of the dunesy property and designed with a distinct nod toward modern engineering, the structure will offer breathtaking views while at the same time serving as an elegant social centerpiece.

“The clubhouse has been uniquely styled to achieve the highest in both form and function,” said Jon Tomlinson, the club’s general manager. “The superb design and contemporary detailing will perfectly complement the championship-caliber layout that Colin has crafted.”

Designed by Gravity Partnership Limited of Hong Kong, the clubhouse is being built to blend into the rugged Central Coast landscape, maximize natural light and promote a sense of /feng shui/. Proof is in the innovative blueprints, which call for floor-to-ceiling windows, large balconies with overhangs, and an expansive roof deck with vistas of the course and East Sea. The facility is expected to open in January 2009.

“Like The Montgomerie Links itself, there’s a real imaginativeness to it,” said Tomlinson. “The angles are sharp, the lines are sleek and the tones fit their surroundings. >From what I’ve seen, only the highly regarded National Golf Club in Australia has so seamlessly combined state-of-the-art clubhouse and world-class, links-style golf.”

Located just off breathtaking Ha My Beach and minutes from Da Nang’s international airport, The Montgomerie Links moves boldly over a striking landscape of wispy casuarina pines and sand dunes.

Eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie—better known as Monty to his worldwide fan base—has massaged massive greens and rippled fairways into the stunning backdrop, setting up an experience he believes will rank among the world’s finest. A comprehensive practice facility will be unveiled next month. The first nine holes are expected to be playable by summer.

“This is an exciting area, Vietnam, especially this particular region, China Beach, the historical nature of it and what we can do here,” Montgomerie said at a recent press conference. “It’s a beautiful beach, a beautiful golf course site. To find a course site like this, these days, is very rare.”

Course developer Indochina Capital has committed $45 million to The Montgomerie Links Vietnam project, breaking new leisure ground in the most promising resort region yet developed in Vietnam.

A little over one year ago, another Indochina property, a posh super-resort and spa dubbed The Nam Hai, opened to worldwide acclaim on a site just five kilometers south of the Montgomerie Links. The most prestigious hotel groups in the world, including Raffles, Banyan Tree, Kor and Hyatt, are now developing resorts in the region.

In addition to the course and clubhouse, the 70-plus-hectare development will include 60 three-bedroom villas for sale on 38,000 square meters called The Estates at the Montgomerie Links.

The villas will range in size from 276 to 395 square meters on ample lots that range in size from 350 to 700 square meters. All of the villas feature heated swimming pools, contemporary American-style kitchens and expansive views of the golf course.

Clubhouse architect Gravity Partnership is renowned in Asia for its non-conventional and high quality building designs. It has created almost 50 housing and mixed-use projects in China, and was lauded for its work by three publications in 2007.**
