LAS VEGAS -- Like the rest of us, golfers tend to make resolutions each year and often times, these pertain to their game. After 25 years in the golf industry, Spanish Trail Golf and Country Club's resident Golf Pro, Brad Apple has heard countless resolutions from his clientele.
As a professional instructor, Director of Golf Instruction for the Club, Jim McGurk has listened to his share of resolutions as well. Together, they have compiled a list of the ten most popular. Most of them require the investment of time or money or in some cases both. Some also require a little luck.
Resolutions include:
10 - Make a hole in one (practice all you want but this ultimately requires luck)
9 - Take a golf-oriented trip
8 - Go to the Masters
7 - Learn to hit a bunker shot
6 - Buy a new set of clubs
5 - Break 100, 90, 80, 70 for the first time
4 - Lower handicap
3 - Take a series of golf lessons
2 - Practice more
1 - Lose weight (golfers are people too)
McGurk shares, "Year after year golfers make resolutions to improve things specific to their golf game. As an instructor, I like to know what their specific goals are as this information provides me with a good starting point when working together. Some resolutions, however, are out of our hands. After all, I'm not a weight loss counselor!"
Apple concurs, "Golfers tend to be somewhat goal-driven when it comes to their game, just by nature; so they tend to make resolutions each year. Some resolutions we can help with and on others we just wish them well."
