CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte division of the egolf Amateur Tour gears up for its 14th season with the best schedule of local courses in tour history. After a members’ welcome party on at the egolf teaching center, the season begins Feb. 2 at Charles T. Myers.
This year’s schedule includes visits to four private clubs – the Country Club of Salisbury, River Hills, Statesville Country Club, and Cabarrus CC – as well as stops at such premier venues as: Carolina Lakes, Rocky River, Stonebridge, Olde Sycamore, Rock Barn (Jones), Verdict Ridge, Birkdale, Waterford and Skybrook.
“Without a doubt, this schedule is our finest ever,” said tour president Dennis McCormac. “If you’re interested in stroke play events on quality courses, we’ve got the ticket.”
The tour is open to males and females of all ages with handicaps from 0-21. Golfers are placed in four flights based on handicaps and competition is gross stroke play on weekends only. Flights are: Championship (0-5 handicap), A Flight (6-10), B Flight (11-15) and C Flight (16-20).
The tour has a software program that tracks each player’s handicap based on tournament scores. This ensures participants are placed in their proper flight.
Golfers may join the tour any time during the year for an $80 membership fee. That fee includes a gift bag and tour packet, and allows members to play in Charlotte tournaments, as well as other egolf Amateur Tour events nationwide. Membership also provides golfers reduced rates on practice rounds prior to many of the scheduled tournaments.
Entry fees in Charlotte range from $75-$95. Those fees includes cart and green fees, range balls, prizes for the top four in each flight, plus closest-to-the-pins awards . Results and points standings are posted within 48 hours at: (www.amateurgolftour.net).
Top four finishers in each flight at every tourney win gift certificates from Edwin Watts, while all participants earn points toward a season-long championship in their flight.
There is no required number of tournaments that members must participate in. The regular season runs through a 36-hole local final, held Oct. 4-5th at the Warrior and Regent Park. The 2008 egolf Amateur Tour Championship, drawing top players from across the country, is Oct. 25-26th at Palmetto Dunes & Port Royal Plantations in Hilton Head, SC.
