SOUTHLAKE, Texas -- HorsePower Sports Marketing (HSM), the sanctioning body of the 2008 HorsePower Tee Shot Tour (HTST), proudly announces the third member from the stock car racing fraternity who will take the tee box during the six (6) televised “Power Golf” events on SPEED TV next year.
J.J. Yeley, currently driving on the Sprint Cup circuit, has agreed to compete next year on the HTST. Jeff Hammond, NASCAR on FOX broadcaster and HTST representatives had these thoughts on J.J.’s entry. “J.J. was on our radar from the creation of this concept. His reputation as a straight hitter with some punch will fit perfectly with this format. He is our third personality who has committed and so far the field is shaping up nicely with some solid ball strikers.”
Yeley, who will drive for Hall of Fame racing for the first time in 2008, has a long history of success within a variety of vehicles throughout his racing career. The Phoenix native began his career at age 10 and quickly made a name for himself on the midget circuit. In fact, it required a forged birth certificate earlier in his career to make age requirements in some divisions. In 1998, Yeley became one of the youngest drivers ever to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 and garnered an impressive ninth place finish. Yeley’s ultimate season occurred in 2003 as he shattered the record books which were written by racing legend A.J. Foyt. An astounding twenty-four USAC victories propelled Yeley to becoming only the second driver in history to earn the “Triple Crown” by capturing the Midget, Sprint, and Silver Crown championships in a single season. These accomplishments have allowed Yeley to climb the ladder through the Nationwide Series and now the Sprint Cup Series. In 2008, Yeley will be piloting the #96 DLP HDTV Toyota from Hall of Fame Racing.
As for his golf game, Yeley had these thoughts on his participation on the 2008 HorsePower Tee Shot Tour. “I am really looking forward to competing in this format. Golf is a big hobby of mine, and I try to play every chance I get. I may not be the longest hitter on the NASCAR circuit, but I hit it straight and try to have the most fun. Playing golf reminds me why I race cars for a living.”
