Natalie Gulbis and John Elway shine at ADT Golf Skills Challenge

The ADT Golf Skills Challenge delivers another first in 2007 with its first LPGA winner.

Women’s tour star Natalie Gulbis teamed with former Super Bowl-winner quarterback John Elway to win the 16th annual situational shot-making competition, which has become one of the most prominent events in golf’s Challenge Season.

Gulbis and Elway, along with three-time ADT Skills champion Peter Jacobsen will talk to the media about the competition and about the upcoming season on Wednesday, December 19, at 1 p.m. ET via conference call. To participate in the call, dial toll-free 877 852 6581 and ask for the ADT Skills Challenge Conference Call.

The ADT Golf Skills Challenge surged into mainstream prominence in 2003, when Major League Baseball home run king Mark McGwire astoundingly won the competition, topping a field of Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, Padraig Harrington, Rich Beem, Jacobsen, Colin Montgomerie, Dudley Hart and Paul Azinger. Annika Sorenstam joined the field in 2004 and Paula Creamer battled the men in 2005 as the event took advantage of its unique format to pit LPGA stars and sports celebrities, including Elway, Dan Marino, Roger Clemens and Jerry Rice, against top PGA Tour players.

This year, Gulbis and Elway topped the teams of Bubba Watson and Marino; Norman and Clemens; and Jacobsen/Rice.

The telecast, which showcases player personalities and competitive banter via elaborate use of microphone technology, airs on NBC Saturday, Dec. 29, and Sunday, Dec. 30, from 4-6 p.m. (ET) both days (check local listings). The PGA Tour-sanctioned competition, taped Nov. 5 at The Fairmont Turnberry Resort & Club in Miami, FL, is the only golf on network TV that weekend.
