ESPN premieres highlights from World Long Drive Championship

ROANOKE, Texas -- Long Drivers of America (LDA) announced the sport of long drive will be televised in high definition for the first time on Christmas Day, when ESPN premieres a highlights package from the recent 2007 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship.

ESPN's 90-minute program, which will air at 1 p.m. EST, incorporates a behind-the-scenes look at RE/MAX championship week in Mesquite, Nevada, which took place in late October and included a tribute to U.S. armed forces sponsored by Cadbury Schweppes.

Long drive legend Art Sellinger and two-time U.S. Open champion Andy North serve as co-hosts of ESPN's telecast, which was produced by Chris Ohlmeyer.

Crowned as 2007 RE/MAX world champions and widely recognized as golf's longest hitters were:

Open Division - Mike Dobbyn (Las Vegas, Nev.), 385 yards;

Senior Division - Frank Miller (Covina, Calif.), 394 yards;

Super Senior - Mike Gorton (Lafayette, Colo.), 340 yards;

Grand Champion - Rick Barry (Colorado Springs, Colo.), 348 yards;

Women - Sheila Kelliher (Quartz Hill, Calif.), 329 yards.

Qualifying for the 2008 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship will begin in February at the RE/MAX world championship grid at the Palms GC in Mesquite.
