The 2005 Mobile Cup moves to Collingtree Park Golf Club

Jan. 10, 2005 – The fourth staging of The Mobile Cup on the European Seniors Tour will be marked with a new venue this year, as the tournament moves to Collingtree Park Golf Club in Northamptonshire from June 17-19, 2005.

The tournament has quickly established itself as a favourite amongst the Seniors Tour players and has a reputation for producing exciting finishes, as was the case last year when Scotland’s Bill Longmuir birdied three of the final four holes to pip Japan’s Seiji Ebihara for the title.

Longmuir added his name to an impressive tournament Roll of Honour which features the inaugural champion from 2002, former Ryder Cup Captain Bernard Gallacher, and the 2003 winner Carl Mason, both of whom recorded their maiden Seniors Tour victories in the event.

Collingtree Park Golf Club is no stranger to hosting prestigious Seniors Tour events having staged The Ryder Collingtree Seniors Classic between 1992 and 1997 – where the winners were Neil Coles (three times), Liam Higgins, Tommy Horton and David Huish – and the 1993 European Seniors Tour Qualifying School, won by Renato Campagnoli.

The Northamptonshire venue, designed by former Open Golf Champion and US Open Champion Johnny Miller and opened in 1990, also staged two events on The European Tour, the 1995 Collingtree British Masters won by Sam Torrance, and the One2One British Masters won by Robert Allenby.

Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Seniors Tour, said: “We look forward to the fourth year of this unique event, which brings the professionals and amateurs together in a manner which exemplifies the friendly nature of the European Seniors Tour. We are delighted to be returning to Collingtree Park and are grateful of the support of the Mobile Phone industry and the efforts of SweetSpot, our Promoter, in making the event a success.”

Frank Prescott, Collingtree Park Director of Golf, said “The Directors and Members at Collingtree Park Golf Club are very honoured and privileged to be hosting the prestigious Mobile Cup on the 2005 European Seniors Tour. Having matured considerably since the British Masters in 1996, the course will certainly provide the stern challenge such proven professionals seek. We are very much looking forward to welcoming them.”

Finally, one of the main objectives of The Mobile Cup is to unite the Mobile world in supporting relevant charities, which over the last three years has raised over £80,000 for Make-a-Wish and Get Connected. This amount is set to increase in 2005.
