Miles of Golf earns Golf World magazine recognition as a best

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- As the 2008 golf season approaches, Ann Arbor-based Miles of Golf has once again been named by Golf World magazine as one of the “100 Best Golf Shops in America.” The honor comes in the national magazine’s January issue and highlights Miles of Golf as one of the country’s top retail golf operations of the past calendar year. It’s the ninth consecutive time Miles of Golf has made this honor roll of golf shops.

“In 2007 our staff again answered the bell,” said Chris Mile, the president and co-founder of Miles of Golf. “We set out each year to be one of the top operations in the golf industry, and we’re willing to do the hard work required to receive this recognition.”

Golf World’s certification of the nation’s best golf shops is based on a number of criteria, including appearance, revenue and promotional ideas and initiatives. In 2007, Miles of Golf’s major undertakings included its “Maxx Fitting” process that utilizes the Trackman™ Doppler radar golf measuring device, widely heralded as the best of its kind in the industry. By using Trackman in conjunction with traditional club-fitting techniques, Miles of Golf says it’s moving closer to come up with a perfect program to get customers the proper equipment.
“We pride ourselves on fitting our customers with the right clubs,” said Casey Baker, vice-president of Miles of Golf. “Trackman allows us to present the customer with incredible data showing them how different clubs will affect their game.”

Utilizing new tools wasn’t the only technical improvements Miles of Golf made to its operation in 2007. It also began an Internet newsletter for its customers which combined golf news and information with on-line marketing and enhanced its web site, making it easier and more convenient to shop. “Our customers are tech-savvy and aware of what’s available at the touch of a computer key,” says Mile. “We’ve adjusted to allow them to know what we’re doing on a 24/7 basis.”

In addition to its retail operation, Miles of Golf boasts the award-winning Kendall Academy, long-recognized as one of the state’s top instructional facilities. The eight-member staff of PGA professionals includes 2006 Michigan PGA Golf Professional of the Year and two-time Teacher of the Year Dave Kendall, highly-regarded instructor Paul Haase and two-time Michigan PGA Player of the Year Tom Harding.

Many Midwest golf shops do the bulk of their business in spring and summer, but Miles of Golf stays busy year-round thanks to ongoing instructional programs and heated/sheltered golf range tees. Miles of Golf is located at 3113 Carpenter Road in Ypsilanti, just 1.5 miles northeast of the US-23/I-94 interchange. The Miles of Golf offices can be reached at (734) 973-9004 or toll-free at (877) 973-9005. More information is available on the web site www.milesofgolf.com.
