LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Just in time for Christmas, the best-selling biography, The Feeling of Greatness: The Moe Norman Story is now available for order on http://thefeelingofgreatness.com.
After being out of print for a few years, The Feeling of Greatness by Tim O’Connor is available for US$19.95 plus shipping and handling.
The Feeling of Greatness documents the bittersweet life of Norman, one of the golf’s most engaging characters, from his working-class roots in Kitchener, Ontario to his recognition as one of the world’s greatest ball-strikers.
Originally published in 1995, the third edition of The Feeling of Greatness includes three additional chapters that detail the Canadian legend’s last nine years to his passing in September 2004.
The book’s new availability coincides with preparations for shooting the Hollywood movie based on Norman’s life.
Writer and producer Barry Morrow, who won an Oscar for his screenplay for 1988’s The Rain Man starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise¸ wrote the film. The working title is “Dance the Green,” but Morrow says he just calls it the “Moe movie.”
The director is George Gallo, known for writing Midnight Run and the recent My Mom’s New Boyfriend with Antonio Banderas and Meg Ryan.
“We’re looking to start shooting in spring 2008, barring delays with the Hollywood writer’s strike, and for release in 2009,” Morrow said.
The independently produced bio-flick largely focuses on the mid to late 1950s when Norman won nearly every tournament he played and he simultaneously delighted and horrified the Canadian golf world with his eccentricities, excruciating shyness and incredible skill.
“This was when he was at the peak of his powers, but Moe was conflicted with hiding behind his insecurities and getting on a national stage,” Morrow said.
“He wanted to be the best golfer in the world and not have anyone notice. The press called him a golf clown, the RCGA thought he was an embarrassment, and the PGA pros drove him off the tour because of his eccentricities. Golf was a means to his happiness, but his fears were in the way.”
Morrow said they are working on finding an actor to play Moe. “We need someone who is an athlete and a good golfer. He will be trained to swing like Moe by teaching professional Todd Graves, who played on the Nationwide Tour and teaches Moe’s method.”
