55 schools compete in National Collegiate Golf Championship

IRVINE, Calif. -- Collegiate Golf Alliance (CGA), the premier online registration and golf event management tool, announced the 55 schools that will be competing for the 6th Annual National Collegiate Golf Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada November 9-11, 2007. The California-based company has teamed with the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) to administer the 2007 National Collegiate Golf Championship. Formatted as a two person scramble event for collegiate and university amateurs, the NCGC allows golfers to represent their university and compete to be the 2007 National Champion. Participants can compete in one of three championship divisions: Student, Faculty/Staff and Alumni/Community.

This amateur golf event is focused on non-NCAA university recreational golfers who participated in one of 45 local qualifying tournaments held across the United States this fall. Local Qualifying winners advance to the official National Collegiate Golf Championship in Las Vegas. Over 700 colleges and universities were represented in local qualifying event, making this CGA and NIRSA event the largest golf event in the country. “The NCGC brings together students, faculty and alumni to compete for their university and against other colleges and universities. The level of enthusiasm and involvement over the past few years projects into another exciting National Championship” stated CGA’s President and CEO Mike Munson.

Teams including those from University of Iowa, Texas A&M, University of Miami, University of Nebraska, Rutgers, UCLA and USC will compete in this year’s event. For a full listing of participants please visit

In a dramatic turn of events, Gianni Sacilotto and Bryan Sandoval of Cal Poly Pomona charged past the University of Miami team with a two shot swing on the final hole. The pair shot a seven under score of 65 to win the 2006 National Collegiate Golf Championship (NCGC) at The Revere Golf Club in Las Vegas, NV. The fifth year two-person scramble event, organized by the Collegiate Golf Alliance (CGA) showcased over 45 teams representing 35 different colleges and universities. “We were pleased that we had the resources to be able to send our winning student team to the national tournament. Involvement at the national tournament was what we were hoping for, as well as our representative team having a good time and experience.
Winning the tournament was completely unexpected, but it was great to be able to showcase our students and what a smaller program is capable of. GO BRONCOS ” -- Sean Del Rossi, Cal Poly Pomona Recreation Director. “ We are excited to come back to defend our championship and for the Red Bull Pairings Party! We were having fun,” exclaimed Sandoval.

The NCGC includes a Pairings Party at Gameworks, National Skills Challenge, Practice Round and the National Championship round at Badlands Golf Club.

Portions of proceeds from the Local Qualifiers and the Championship will benefit the NIRSA Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides opportunities for students in professional development, research, scholarships, and educational resources. To date, the NCGC program has raised over $27,000 for the Foundation.

To provide additional resources, CGA has appointed six regional managers to assist in the programming of campus golf events as well as help coordinate the National Tournament.
