Myrtle Beach, S.C. — Carolina Regional Cancer Center (CRCC) has joined with Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. to offer the Myrtle Beach Cancer Care Retreat. The retreat, which can be individualized on a patient by patient basis, includes quality comprehensive cancer care at CRCC, accommodations at the Myrtlewood Villas in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and special rates at selected golf, entertainment and dining venues.
The Myrtle Beach Cancer Care Retreat is the first along the East Coast to offer radiotherapeutic treatment within a tranquil resort setting. It is especially designed for individuals living outside the Myrtle Beach area who need to undergo a radiation program and wish to do so away from their home areas, yet in a safe, relaxing and pleasant environment. Family members who travel to Myrtle Beach to be with a cancer patient during the term of treatment can also utilize the retreat’s benefits and accommodations rates.
“When we first began talking about a cancer care retreat program, it was a natural choice to team up with Burroughs & Chapin Company,” said Dr. Steven Bass, president and clinical director for CRCC. “B&C is a recognized tourism industry leader. Because care and attention to detail are their strengths, they know how to create a comfortable environment. So, for our patients, we felt that B&C’s experience in delivering relaxing vacations would be a perfect fit.”
Accommodations at the spacious Myrtlewood Villas are available on a monthly or two-week basis. Monthly rates begin at $750 for a one-bedroom villa and $850 for two bedrooms. Two-weeks rates start at $500 for a one-bedroom and $650 for two bedrooms. Centrally located in Myrtle Beach and just two blocks from CRCC, the Myrtlewood Villas offer guests a tranquil setting along the golf courses of Myrtlewood Golf Club. Rates may vary depending on time of year reservations are made. Retreat participants are provided special attention when they pre-register with Estelle Boyd or Rick Schultz at Myrtlewood Villas, (888) 297-6200 or (843) 913-4437.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with CRCC and offer the Myrtle Beach Cancer Care Retreat as a way to help cancer patients relax,” said Archie Lemon, director of golf operations for Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management. “We are in hopes that the retreat’s participants will find their stay along the Grand Strand as therapeutic as the treatments they undergo while they’re here.”
On behalf of prospective Myrtle Beach Cancer Care Retreat participants, CRCC has also coordinated with a number of area physicians, physical therapists, nutritionists, and spas to meet additional needs patients may have while undergoing radiation treatment at CRCC. A listing of participating physicians and organizations is available online at www.CRCCmd.com.
“The Myrtle Beach Cancer Care Retreat is the first of its kind and is unique in what it provides to cancer patients,” says Dr. Bass. “In health care, resorts often offer vacation packages that include physicals and spa treatments. The Myrtle Beach Cancer Care Retreat pioneers the concept of offering radiotherapeutic treatment within a tranquil resort atmosphere. Everything a patient may need, from state-of-the-art medical treatment and quality cancer care to dining, shopping, entertainment or just a relaxing walk on the beach, is just minutes away.”
The Myrtle Beach area is also home to various cancer support groups that welcome active participation. Such groups include Look Good Feel Better, Mercy Hospice of Horry County, Reach to Recovery, SOS, Bosom Buddies, and Strand Prostate Cancer Support Group.
CRCC is located near some of the area’s top medical facilities including Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, located at 81st Ave. in Myrtle Beach; Conway Medical Center just off U.S. 501 in Conway; and Loris Healthcare System, located in downtown Loris and accessible by connecting to U.S. 9 in North Myrtle Beach.
