Grants totaling more than £1million (approx. $2 million) to support the development of the game around the world have been announced by The R&A in its continuing policy to encourage the growth of global golf.
Duncan Weir, The R&A director of golf development, said: "In addition to financial support, The R&A will send referees and other officials to many of the championships and events. Meetings were held with 22 different countries at this year's Open Championship at Carnoustie and this has led to an increase in the number of nations now in receipt of R&A support or being considered for assistance in the future."
First time recipients of income generated by The Open are Burundi, Pakistan and Samoa. For a list of recipients, visit R&A news.
