The George Holliday Junior Championship is scheduled to be played once again this year on Nov. 22-24 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Played annually every Thanksgiving weekend, this junior tournament is one of the most popular events on the entire Grand Strand.
All golfers up to age 18 are welcome. There are both male and female divisions, and for the fourth consecutive year, the tournament will consist of three rounds. Entries are limited to the first 420 competitors who sign up.
The event will once again be played at Myrtle Beach National, a 54-hole facility that has three world-class courses - SouthCreek, the West Course, and the standout King's North Course, all designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer.
Over the years, more than 10,000 juniors have taken part in this exciting event, and the 2007 George Holliday Memorial Junior Tournament once again promises a great time of golf, fun and prizes for all that enter.
The George Holliday Memorial Junior Golf Tournament was established to honor a successful junior and collegiate golfer who was tragically killed at the age of 22 in 1967 in an automobile accident. Holliday, a Galivants Ferry, S.C. native, was a firm believer that golf helps to mold juniors into responsible adults, and that golf was a key part of his life. His family created the tournament to give more juniors this opportunity.
The entry fee for the tournament is $125 (or $85 for nine holes) and consists of three rounds of golf at the West Course, SouthCreek and King's North, which was recently named as one of the nation's 100 greatest public courses by Golf Digest. The entry fee also gets competitors a hot dog lunch each day, a golf cap, and fun for the whole family. Accommodations will be provided by the Breakers Resort.
