STILLWATER, Okla. - Gregor Main of Danville, Calif., solidified his lead with a second-round, 1-under-par 71 at The PING Invitational. In the Girls Division, Vicky Hurst of Melbourne, Fla., carded a 3-under-par 69 to take the top spot on the leaderboard.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, The PING Invitational is a 54-hole stroke play event being held at Karsten Creek Golf Club. The 78-player field features players from 18 states and Canada. The Girls Division is playing Karsten Creek Golf Club at 6,220 yards, while the Boys Division is being played at 7,285 yards.

Main’s day started off rough with bogeys on his first three holes, but he followed with birdies on Nos. 5 and 7 to finish the front side 1-over-par. He goes into Monday’s final round with a two-day total of 5-under-par 139 and a five-stroke lead.

“I started out terrible on the first three holes,” Main said. “But I got it together, gave myself some confidence and got my head back in the game.”

Main goes into Monday’s final round seeking his second win of his AJGA career. He said he will look for the same consistency and confidence that kept him at the top of the scoreboard for the first two days.

“I’m just going to keep my same routine and come out there and give it my best,” Main said. “It’s definitely good to sleep on a five-shot lead and I’ll just come out and do my best tomorrow.”

Behind Main in second place is Anthony Paolucci of Dallas, with a two-day total of even-par 144. Ramsey Sahyoun of Reseda, Calif., David Chung of Fayetteville, N.C., and Alex Kang of Oak Park, Calif., are all tied for third with two-day totals of 2-over-par 146. Tied for sixth place with totals of 4-over-par 148 are William Kropp of Edmond, Okla., Chan Kim of Chandler, Ariz., and Adam Wennerstrom of Austin, Texas.

Hurst, ranked third in the Polo Golf Rankings, finished her round with five birdies and two bogeys as she was the only girl to finish under par Sunday.

“Today was better for me in a big way because I’ve gotten used to the greens,” Hurst said. “I worked on that yesterday afternoon and it paid off. I’ve gotten better at reading the speed of them and that helped me hit a lot of long putts.”

The 17-year-old Hurst goes into the final-round looking for her third win of 2007, including her championship at the McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship in July, and the sixth overall of her career.

“This win would probably mean the most to me, just because of the level of competition among the girls here and it being the last tournament of the summer,” Hurst said. “I’m just going to go out there and play my best and try and not worry about being nervous.”

First-round leader Tiffany Lua of Rowland Heights, Calif., sits three strokes behind Hurst with a two-day total of 1-over-par 145. Tied for third with two-day totals of 6-over-par 150 are Jennifer Johnson of La Quinta, Calif., and Alexis Thompson of Coral Springs, Fla.

The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.
