McDonald & Sons Golf Course Builders, Jessup, Md., are contributing $1,000 per year to the University of Maryland to help fund the newly-established Golf Course Builders Association of America Foundation scholarship.
Beginning fall 2007, annual $1000 scholarships are to be awarded to two students at the university. One will be given to a student enrolled in the four-year golf course management program. The other, funded by a matching donation from McDonald & Sons as a GCBAA member, will go to a student in the two-year golf course management program at the Institute of Applied Agriculture.
Through the GCBAA Foundation, scholarships have already been established at 11 participating colleges and universities across the country, and the program is expanding this year to another nine schools with accredited golf-related programs, including the University of Maryland. The foundation donates $1,000 a year to each of the 20 participating schools, and encourages members like McDonald & Sons to match its contributions in order to provide scholarships for additional students.
