Superintendents volunteer time at LPGA Longs Drugs Challenge

DANVILLE, Calif. -- The Golf Course Superintendents Association of Northern California (GCSANC) will distribute free ball mark repair tools at the LPGA Longs Drugs Challenge on October 4-7, 2007 at Blackhawk Country Club in Danville, Calif. In addition to receiving a free ball mark repair tool, event spectators can stop by the booth bannered Golf Resource Organization for Women (a.k.a. GROW) and learn about golf clinics, classes, associate clubs for women, families and friends.

In support of Play Golf America and its player development initiatives the GROW Booth (located in the Fan Village) will be staffed by representatives from the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA), Pacific Women’s Golf Association (PWGA), Women’s Golf Association of Northern California (WGANC), Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA), Northern California PGA (NCPGA), Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), and other supporting golf organizations.

Local golf course superintendents will also be in the booth demonstrating how to conduct proper ball mark repair. “Ball mark repair translates into an improved putting surface and ultimately a better playing experience for golfers and the players that follow on the course,” stated GCSANC Board Member Chris Mains. “The LPGA’s Longs Drugs Challenge is the perfect venue for introducing ball mark repair techniques to new and returning golfers.” According to Mains, each free repair tool is accompanied by a pocket-size folder that illustrates the proper way to repair a ball mark.

“The Golf Resource Organization for Women (GROW) commends the GCSANC for its outreach efforts in ball mark repair education,” shared GROW Coordinator Jan Ahlman, Director of Sales for Poppy Ridge Golf Course and an advocate for women’s golf. “As we attract new players to the game and welcome former players back to the sport, we are pleased to have local course superintendents sharing their knowledge about ball mark repair and course etiquette.”
