Price selected for the Bob Jones Award

Dec. 25, 2004 – Nick Price has been selected for the Bob Jones Award, which the USGA presents for distinguished sportsmanship in golf.

"People always ask who's the nicest guy on tour, and Nick Price's name always comes up," Davis Love III said. Price was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame last year, having won three majors and more than 40 times around the world. He is the only player to be ranked in the top 50 since the world ranking began in 1986 until the end of 2004, when he finally slipped just outside the top 50.

He received the Payne Stewart Award in 2002 for his professional conduct and commitment to charities. Earlier that year, he was given the Jim Murray Award from the Golf Writers Association of America in 2002 for his consistent and thoughtful cooperation with the media.

Price has skipped the heart of the PGA Tour summer stretch in each of the last two years to extend family vacations.

"Nick is one of those people who has a firm grasp on what's important," said his wife, Sue. "In his soul, he thinks about others. I rarely have seen him become abrupt with anybody. He just wants to give the best of himself in whatever he does."

Price will receive the Bob Jones Award on Feb. 5 at the USGA annual meeting in Santa Barbara, Calif.
