OAK RIDGE, TN. – Dec. 24, 2004 – Centennial Golf Course, the well-regarded public course located just 30 minutes outside of Knoxville, and Billy Casper Golf ("BCG") has announced that Mike Shearer has been promoted to the position of General Manager, effective January 1, 2005.
An industry veteran, Shearer started with BCG in April 2000 as the second assistant professional at Centennial. In December 2001 he was promoted to Director of Golf / General Manager at The Legacy Golf Course in Springfield, bypassing the first assistant position.
Shearer is currently working towards his Class "A" PGA certification, to be completed by the end of 2005. He is an avid ice hockey fan and was an Olympic hopeful on the Gold Medal winning 1980 U.S. hockey team. Shearer will be relocating to Knoxville with his wife Ruth.
"I am excited about the opportunity to return to Centennial," says Shearer. "The team here has done a great job providing an outstanding golf experience for area golfers. I'm looking forward to improving upon our success."
Centennial Golf Course offers an affordable golf experience on a layout marked by strategically routed holes and dramatic elevation change. The Gary Roger Baird design stretches to 6,633 yards from the back "orange" tees, and winds its way through 120 acres of lush, rolling Eastern Tennessee landscape. From the forward tees, Centennial plays to a comfortable 4,803 yards, making it a popular play among women, juniors and seniors.
Complementing the Baird design is a full service clubhouse and fully stocked pro shop and grille. Centennial also houses the most complete practice and learning facility in the greater Knoxville area, with instruction provided by 2004 East Tennessee Golf News PGA Teacher of the Year, Des Mahoney. Rates at Centennial Golf Club range from $36 to $44, depending on day of week and time of day. Discounted rates are available for juniors, seniors and twilight play.
