Champ Spikes reports taking second straight grand-slam title

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- As the number one ranked golfer in the world put the finishing touches on his fourth PGA Championship and 13th major title, Champ Spikes closed the door on yet another Grand Slam sweep. It’s the second straight year that Champ has captured the elusive Grand Slam, winning The Masters, The US Open, the Open Championship, and the PGA Championship in a calendar year.

During the hottest week of the summer, at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the winner won the PGA Championship wearing CHAMP’s Wafer-Lite™ Spike, specially made to fit into CHAMP’s patented Q-Lok® fastening system and the Tri-Lok fastening system. The Q-Lok system is the fastest fastening system in the golf industry, with just a ¼ of a turn to lock and unlock the spikes into place. The winner, in his traditional red shirt, shot a red-hot 63 in the second round, tying a record-low at a Major, eventually finishing two strokes ahead to win the 89th PGA Championship.

The Grand Slam sweep indicates how CHAMP Spikes makes different spikes for a variety of player preferences and course conditions. While the PGA Champion selected the CHAMP Wafer-Lite spike, the winner of The Masters chose CHAMP’s traditional metal Cermec®, and the CHAMP Stinger™ was worn by the winners of the US Open and The British Open.
“The Grand Slam for wins in one season is tough for any manufacturer but to do it two years in a row is a phenomenal feat,” said Harris MacNeill, President of CHAMP Spikes. “No other spike company can lay claim to a statistic like that. Champions clearly choose CHAMP. It's great to look at the winners of the different championships and see their varied choice of spikes, we are the number one brand on tour because we provide a variety of spikes for player preferences.”
