ClubCorp presents world's largest charity golf and dining event

DALLAS -- ClubCorp, The World Leader in Private Clubs, has announced it is marking its golden anniversary Oct. 19 by holding the world's largest one-day charity golf and dining event, "The ClubCorp Charity Classic: Celebrating 50 Years of Service.”

During this historic event, ClubCorp's 94 golf and country clubs all around the country will open their courses to an estimated 15,000 players for tournaments and dinners all designed to raise funds for charity. Concurrently, ClubCorp's 56 business and sports clubs will use this rare event to open their dining rooms for unique dining experiences with more than 5,000 members, guests, and patrons enjoying a signature menu created specifically for the event.

All proceeds raised during the ClubCorp Charity Classic will be divided and donated to four separate charities:

The Muscular Dystrophy Association's (MDA), specifically "Augie's Quest,” an initiative within MDA that is an aggressive, cure-driven effort singularly focused on treatments and cures for ALS, (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease). Augie's Quest will receive 40 percent of the net funds.

The PGA Foundation, which provides people of every ability, race, gender, and social and economic background an opportunity to experience the game of golf and learn vital life lessons. PGA Foundation will receive 20 percent of the net funds.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all, and energize science to find the cures. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Susan G. Komen will receive 20 percent of the net funds.

ClubCorp's Employee Partners Care Foundation (EPCF), a fund created to help ClubCorp's employees and their families by providing financial assistance in times of crisis. EPCF will receive 20 percent of the net funds.

"The 50th anniversary ClubCorp Charity Classic further reinforces our company culture of giving back to our communities, which include our 200,000 members and our 16,000 employee partners. We chose four charities that we thought would touch the lives of as many people as possible,” said Eric Affeldt, ClubCorp's president and CEO. "ClubCorp's founder, Robert H. Dedman developed his first club with a vision that the clubs would serve as good stewards in their communities. Through the years, our clubs and members have facilitated millions of dollars for philanthropic and charitable causes. This event allows us to proudly carry on that tradition and look forward to the future.”

The ClubCorp Story
As with many successful endeavors, the ClubCorp story begins with a vision. In 1957, Robert H. Dedman purchased 400 acres near Dallas and developed Brookhaven Country Club. Dedman constructed three golf courses around Brookhaven's one clubhouse, thus creating a vibrant club for members (including entire families) to enjoy a greater sense of community and camaraderie with their families, friends, business associates and colleagues from civic, educational, service and charitable organizations. His vision created the first company in the world to own multiple private clubs, and his success in 'selling fun' spawned an entire industry. In order to provide a true haven of refuge and a home-away-from-home, ClubCorp offered memberships without discriminating, thereby establishing clubs that truly reflected the rich diversity of entire communities. The concept was not only unique, it was revolutionary. During its 50-year history, ClubCorp has grown to nearly 160 clubs and created the finest club experiences and many extraordinary advantages for its members thus becoming "The World Leader in Private Clubs.”
