89th PGA Championship showcases impact of PGA Professionals

TULSA, Okla. -- Celebrating more than 90 years as one of golf’s most compelling major championships, the 89th PGA Championship will showcase the impact that PGA Professionals have made to the success of past PGA Champions.

Spectators attending the 89th PGA Championship, Aug. 6-12, at Southern Hills Country Club will be greeted by the PGA Championship History Exhibit presented by RBS, which is the first PGA of America Official Patron.

The exhibit will be connected to the entrance of the PGA Golf Shop, a 40 x 60-foot air-conditioned area that includes a video presentation that will run continuously and lead visitors to 19 PGA Champion “shadow boxes,” which contain memorabilia of past Champions and plaques for their corresponding PGA Teaching Professional.

Additionally, the PGA Championship History Exhibit features RBS displays and honors 2006 PGA Professional national award recipients Jim Manthis of Coon Rapids, Minn., the PGA Golf Professional of the Year; Mike Small of Champaign, Ill., the PGA Professional Player of the Year; Don Yrene of Scottsdale, Ariz., the Low PGA Professional at the 2006 PGA Championship; and Bill Forrest also of Scottsdale, the PGA Teacher of the Year.

“The PGA Championship History Exhibit is a wonderful tribute to PGA Professionals, who have touched the lives of our past PGA Champions,” said PGA of America President Brian Whitcomb. “We are very proud to have RBS make the commitment to support this exhibit and trust that spectators attending the 89th PGA Championship will come away with a new understanding of the value and life connection PGA Professionals have to major champions.”
