Goodricke Eastern India Amateur set for this week

KOLKATA, India – Dec. 20, 2004 – India’s top amateurs will embark on a struggle for supremacy at the Goodricke Eastern India Amateur which will be played at the par-72, Royal Calcutta Golf Club from 19 to 25 December 2004. The tournament is the second leg on the Eastern Swing of the Royal Challenge Indian Golf Tour.

As many as 83 players have confirmed their participation in the event, including the likes of Gaganjeet Bhullar, Manav Das, Keshav Misra, Amarbir Sinh Malik, Jaskeerat Dullet, among other top amateurs vying for supremacy.

Some of the top contenders for titles on the eastern swing include Jasjeet Singh, who is high on confidence following his impressive victory at the Royal Challenge Amateur Golf Championship in Poona, his brother Simarjeet Singh who is a three-time Sri Lankan Open winner. Ajeetesh Sandhu, the country’s top-ranked junior who finished tied-third in his very first event on the amateur circuit in Poona last month and has since returned wins at Eastern India and All-India Juniors will also pose a serious challenge to the seniors on the Tour as will Chirag Kumar, who incidentally won the Royal Challenge RCGC Cup at the same venue, last week.

The tournament itself comprises two formats. While all 83 amateurs will compete on the first two days on the Strokeplay format, only the top 32 will go on to play the Matchplay format. The final of the Matchplay contest will be played over 36 holes and promises to provide a day full of excitement to the Kolkata golf loving public.

The Royal Calcutta Golf course, which just hosted the RCGC Cup, is in pristine condition. Its tight fairways and strategically positioned hazards will further add a challenge to the competitive field.
