Dec. 18, 2004 – The 2005 Champions Tour will again feature 28 tournaments with at least $50 million in prize money. The only significant change from the 2004 calendar is that the 50-and-over circuit is swapping out South Florida for Seattle. The tour could not find a title sponsor for the former Royal Caribbean Classic in Key Biscayne, which had been the first Champions Tour stop on the mainland.
The first three weeks will be in Hawaii, kicking off with the MasterCard Championship the week of Jan. 17-23, followed by the Turtle Bay Championship the following week and wrapping up with the Skins Game at Wailea Resort during Super Bowl weekend.
After a week off, the tour resumes at the Ace Group Classic in Naples, Fla. The only new tournament is the Greater Seattle Champions Classic, to be played Aug. 19-21 on the TPC at Snoqualmie Ridge.
The Senior PGA Championship, the first of the five senior majors, is set for May 26-29 at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Pennsylvania. The other majors are bunched together in July and early August, with the Ford Senior Players Championship, the Senior British Open and the U.S. Senior Open taking place in three consecutive weeks.
The Champions Tour will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2005.
