Christianson: World Series of Poker champ Jerry Yang hails from golf haven

A mild-mannered psychologist and father of six named Jerry Yang won the 2007 World Series of Poker main event, grossing $8.25 million for his efforts.

To his credit, Yang said that he will donate a tenth of this winnings to charity.

Lost in the feel-good story is that Yang hails from Temecula, California, where golfers will find the Temecula Creek Inn. The resort offers 27 holes of fine golf and a gateway into the southernmost wine region in California.

The resort is also just a few miles from Pechanga Resort and Casino, where Yang won his way into the World Series in a $225 buy-in tourney.

Coincidentally, I too played some Hold 'Em at Pechanga, and was dealt the worst cards I've ever seen in my life.

Yang is by all accounts a very good, and a very lucky man.

I don't know if he golfs, but I'm guessing that if he does, he gets nothing but favorable bounces.
