Vicky Hurst wins McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship

MALVERN, Pa. -- During the final round at White Manor Country Club, Vicky Hurst of Melbourne, Fla., fired a 7-under-par 206 tournament total to win the McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship. Allie White of Lancaster, Ohio, finished in second place recording a 2-under-par 211 tournament total.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship was a 54-hole stroke play event held at White Manor Country Club. This is one of two girls-only Invitational events the AJGA holds each season. The 78-player field featured players from 21 states, Canada and Peru. The par-71 course was played at 6,118 yards.

Coming into the final round, Hurst said she did not want to make too many mistakes. Her birdies on Nos. 10, 11, 12 and 17 for a 2-under-par 69 for the day, showed her determination.

“I played more conservative going into today,” Hurst said. “I usually play aggressive, but I’ve learned to play conservative when you have to.”

This is Hurst’s first AJGA Invitational win. She said having the experience of winning is a good thing, but competing with the best and winning means a lot.

“So many great players have won this tournament,” Hurst said. “It feels great to win,”

Finishing alone in second place was White carding a 2-under-par 211 tournament total. Tied for third were Kristen Park of Buena Park, Calif., and Tiffany Lua of Rowland Heights, Calif., posting 1-over-par 214 tournament totals. Stacey Kim of Columbus, Ga., and Ayaka Kaneko of Honolulu finished in fifth place recording 3-over-par 216 tournament totals.

Titleist, the AJGA's National Sponsor, has been the catalyst and driving force behind the Association's success since 1989. Rolex Watch USA, which is in its third decade of AJGA support, became the inaugural AJGA Premier Partner in 2004. In 2007, after 12 years of support, Polo Ralph Lauren became the AJGA's second Premier Partner.

AJGA alumni have risen to the top of amateur, collegiate and professional golf. More than 160 former AJGA juniors currently play on the PGA and LPGA Tours and have compiled more than 300 wins. AJGA alumni include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Stewart Cink, Davis Love III, Cristie Kerr, Pat Hurst, Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel and Julieta Granada.
