PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- The PGA Golf Club, in Port St. Lucie, Fla., will launch a series of golf instruction features that will air during nine weekly segments of CSS (Comcast/Charter Southeast Sports) Network's "Southern Golf Weekly," and televised in 13 states across the Southeast, spanning from Florida to Arkansas to Virginia.
The instructional pieces are led by Bob Baldassari, PGA general manager at The PGA Golf Club, who will offer PGA Professional insight on various shots and clubs. Baldassari, the 2006 PGA President's Plaque Award winner, will also present an inside look at The PGA Golf Club, named by Golf Digest as one of the "75 Best Golf Resorts in North America." The PGA Golf Club (www.pgavillage.com) encompasses 54 holes of Championship golf by Tom Fazio and Pete Dye; The PGA Learning Center – one of the world's most advanced golf instruction and practice facilities that is home to PGA of America Golf Schools; and The PGA Historical Center, which showcases the PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame, golf's four major Championship trophies, extremely rare golf artifacts such as Donald Ross' 1900s era workbench, historical documents and publications dating back as far as the 1500s.
"The PGA Golf Club is truly excited to showcase our award-winning facilities and PGA Professional instruction on CSS' 'Southern Golf Weekly' show," said Baldassari. "Each week, our viewers can enjoy new segments from top PGA Professionals at The PGA Golf Club that focus on must-see game improvement strategies, technological advances in instruction and what golf enthusiasts can learn from top PGA Professionals that shaped the game's storied history."
These approximately 3-minute weekly segments will air during "Southern Golf Weekly," a 30-minute golf show on CSS hosted by Brian Katrek and PGA Professional Danny McNulty. From July 17, 2007-Sept. 12, 2007, the episodes will air twice each Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.; and again on Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. Joining Baldassari for the segment premier is Eric Hogge, PGA head professional at The PGA Golf Club's PGA Learning Center, as they discuss advances in the game from the days of two-time PGA Champion Jim Barnes and five-time PGA Champion Walter Hagen to today's greats, such as defending PGA Champion Tiger Woods. The piece includes rare historical footage of some of the most legendary names of golf including Barnes, Hagen and two-time PGA Champion Byron Nelson.
The second weekly segment will focus squarely on bunker play, with scheduled historical highlights of two of the most famous sand saves in golf history – Bob Tway's improbable hole out to win the 1986 PGA Championship at Inverness in Toledo, Ohio; and 2008 Ryder Cup Captain Paul Azinger's hole out birdie on No. 18 during the final day singles matches of the 1993 Ryder Cup at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield, England. Future segments are scheduled to feature tee shots, short game techniques, putting, course management and more.
