Phil Mickelson is back to defend his title at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass as the tournament regarded by many as golf's fifth major tees off Thursday in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. While the world No. 2-ranked player said he hadn't always played as well as he would've liked in The Players, changes to the course after the 2006 tournament have increased his interest in the event.

While almost everyone acknowledges that pace of play is an ongoing problem on the PGA Tour, Commissioner Tim Finchem said Tuesday that he's not exactly sure how to remedy the situation. Finchem said the answer is probably not as simple as just merely asking players to pick up the pace, as there are several factors involved.

Although a knee injury prevented Tiger Woods from defending his title at Quail Hollow Country Club, Anthony Kim put together a performance that was almost Woods-like in terms of dominance this weekend. The 22 year old closed with a 3-under-par 69 to shoot 16-under 272 and win by five strokes over Ben Curtis.

Mired at No. 143 on the PGA Tour money list, David Toms hasn't finished under par in a tournament since a 22nd-place tie in the Northern Trust Open. He reversed his fortunes Thursday at Quail Hollow, however, shooting a 5-under-par 72 to take a one-stroke lead. "It does feel good to play solid golf again," Toms said.
