Donnell Woolford celebrity golf in Myrtle Beach: Play with greats for a great cause on the Grand Strand
By Brandon Tucker,
Coinciding with the start of high Grand Strand golf season and Caravelle Resort's grand reopening, former All-Pro cornerback Donnell Woolford's Celebrity Golf Tournament benefits the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Woolford credits the Boys & Girls Club with giving him a safe haven as a child and helping get him a scholarship and graduate from Clemson University in South Carolina.
"This is a potential once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend a day with a group of people who were the best at what they did and have realized their lifetime dream," Woolford said. "It is a great opportunity for the participants to be able to have a great time and experience, and to be able to do it for a great cause."
Expected participants include NFL legends Willie Parker, William "Refrigerator" Perry and Dwight Clark (he of the immortal "The Catch" in the 1982 49ers-Cowboys NFC Championship game); Heisman Trophy winners George Rogers, Mike Rozier and Johnny Rogers; former heavyweight boxing champion James "Bonecrusher" Smith and many more.
This will be the inaugural edition of a golf tournament organizers hope will become an annual tradition, with a goal of raising $25,000 to $50,000 for the Boys & Girls Club. Festivities will take place the second weekend in March. On Saturday, March 10, there will be a pre-event party at Shucker's Raw Bar with a silent live auction.
Sunday will be the main event, starting with a celebrity breakfast before the shotgun start at Arrowhead Country Club. An awards banquet will immediately follow the tournament.
"These stars have a lot of amazing experiences, including Super Bowl championships, heavyweight championships, Olympic medals, and to be able to hear about those experiences first hand and to get to know these guys on a personal level is just awesome," Woolford said.
