Bobby Weed has done some fine work in northeast Florida. Surprisingly, some of Weed's best holes can be found on a relatively unknown place south of Jacksonville called The Golf Club at Fleming Island, a residential course that's popular with the locals. Don't let its residential setting scare you -- there aren't many houses to detract from its natural setting among the pines and swamps. In fact, some might even argue Fleming Island is the best of his three, more well known (and more expensive) Florida courses.

For the most part, the Golf Club at Fleming Island is a "second shot" course just south of Jacksonville near Orange Park, Fla. Certainly there are challenges off the tee -- notably the par 4s at nos. 9 and 14 -- but it's the approach shot where golfers make or break their rounds. Architect Bobby Weed propped up many of his greens. Their edges drop off into bunkers, wetlands and all sorts of tricky side-hill lies and collection areas.

People love the beautiful beaches, dunes and marshland -- all set against the vast Atlantic -- on this small barrier island just 50 minutes northwest of the Jacksonville International Airport. But life indoors at the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island can be pretty stimulating, too. A continuous $65-million renovation since 2006 has revitalized this grand beachfront resort, refurbishing all 445 rooms and suites, building a new spa and rebranding the dining scene.

The TPC Blue Monster at Doral hosted its 50th tournament featuring PGA Tour players, an unprecedented run only bested by Augusta National and Colonial. Raymond Floyd and Jim McLean collaborated to tweak the classic Miami layout in 1993, but the teeth of the original Blue Monster from 1962 remain the same, as Jason Scott Deegan shows us in this photo gallery.
