I recall Frank Beard breaking into an emotional cry after he won the Westchester Classic, sometime in the late 60's or very early 70's. As you can imagine, in "those days", that was quite a shock to the viewing public, as times were different then.
He addresses this quite candidly in his book (whose title I forget) where he kept a diary of his experiences of one year on the PGA Tour. GREAT Read!
Incidentally, I seem to recall that was the richest purse on the Tour, and the winner received $50,000! I think you can tie for anywhere between 12th and 20th these days and earn more than that!
