Chris Baldwin on Paula Creamer July 12, 2008, 11:22 pm

What a jerk you are, Mr Baldwin. Your biography says you learned to tell the truth and run with it. You know almost NOTHING about Paula Creamer, and write this big scenario about her composing herself in the women's john. Were you in there with her? Maybe she had to use the facility, genius. And writing this CRAP after she shoots 60-65 the following week is tabloid journalism at its worst. I have no idea where you won your awards, but it wasn't for women's golf. You have established yourself as the #1 JERK covering the LPGA. What a loser, pencil boy. What did you ever do by 22 or 32 to compare with this beautiful young champion? I will certainly take a greater interest in your fiction now. You owe that young woman a sincere and heartfelt apology, and deserve to be shipped off to junior hockey, where your skills are better suited!

This review seems quite unfair to me. I was at the tournament on Last Sunday, and though she didn't win, I thought she did just fine. Almost every player struggled on Sunday. She'll eventually win a major. I think It's better to pull for her than nitpick everything she did wrong. Noone feels worse than she does. I'll be rooting Paula on instead of being someone that's trying to bring her down.

How is it that the Birdie Kim's and Inbee's win this tournament?... excuse me championship. It was sad to see Creamer meltdown with 9 holes left - what was sadder was her giving up. Not exactly "in the Pink". I don't know which is worse - Creamers Pink Ball or Inbee repeating her mantra after every question: I am honored to win this tournament 10 years after I started playing golf." Does any know when Inbee started playing golf? Oh ... was it 10 years ago?

Poor Journalism June 30, 2008, 1:43 pm

I suppose you think it's cool to be dissing someone young who has already accomplished more than you ever will. Here's another truth - when a "journalist" (used loosely) needs to sink to this kind of assassination by inuendo and extrapolation, he probably doesn't know how else to write. This was mean-spirited in every sense of the term.

Actually, it was all journalism, Matt. Taking the time to follow Creamer's group around inside the ropes as she collapsed, note how she blow off Pressel, had tears in her eyes, bolted into a trailer bathroom and then emerged with sunglasses for the first time all day are all journalistic observations. Sorry, I didn't sit in the media center and watch the final round on TV like other Creamer's-learned-something-fawning golf writers you surely like.
And I probably won't even know what extrapolation means if other trying-to-show-how-smart-they-are gasbags hadn't messaged it on other blogs and the like through the years.
By all means, rip the writing style if you don't like it. If you want truly great writing at WorldGolf, com check out William K. Wolfrum. I don't have that pure skill - and K.'s one of the best writers you'll read anywhere on any subject. I on the other hand, have to rely on reporting.
I love how a few Paula fans - probably bandwagon Paula fans - feel like I'm picking on her too. Yes, I've really knocked Paula Creamer through the years, I write the truth about anyone - Wie, Ochoa, Kerr, Creamer, Tiger, anyone.
Creamer blew it and then she completely lost her composure. That's the truth.

It's alive, and running amuck through the populace. The point is we want to cheer all of these ladies on, and don't want them treated like the Mets or the Giants. If you want to write something that critical about a player's skill, think of your own hot-blooded reply to our criticism of you. That we fawn on her. Nonsense. We just know real talent when we see it. You don't. You see competition in terms like "choke" and "lost composure". She is a 22 yr old woman, and maybe because my daughter is 19 I relate to how hard it must be to compete on the LPGA and how much more difficult it must be to have a wolf in the herd, only a few feet away, critiquing every move. I think the LPGA needs to move you back outside the ropes and in a tent where you belong. Your eye isn't what it should be. Instead of the beauty and grace before you, you find a wart amongst the flowers. Well Mr Baldwin, the wart is you!

As a much older fellow, I am always amazed when folks are so quick to criticize and forecast the worst for a young person like Paula Creamer. Give me a break. She is just a kid.

Not as bad as Pressel June 30, 2008, 5:23 am

Paula is one of my favorite golfers. She is a great player with an even better attitude. She did not break down on the course, as lets remeber Morgan Pressel. She puts too much presure on herself, but she will learn with age, just look at Phil. She will be back and win.
