I don't know how someone could even question Tiger's intensity and drive. Tiger is a different beast and he will remain driven for many years to come. He has been disciplined, focused and goal driven his entire life and I don't see how that could ever change. Who knows how his body will handle the grind in years to come? A significant injury is all that could potentially stop him but I will argue that Tiger is in much better shape than Jack was and that relative gap will actually widen as years go by. You're not going to see Tiger with a beer belly any time soon! In my opinion, Tiger will remain on top of his mental and physical condition for years to come. His longevity will actually surpass Jack's and he will still be winning majors at 50. Think about this... We see guys like Langer and Funk still performing very well at 50+ today. If a marginal player like Funk can do that when he never dominated the game, it's not that difficult to imagine a freak of nature like Tiger still winning his share by then. Tiger will be in better shape at 50 than Jack was at 40. If that turns out to be the case, he could very well win his last major at 55+. My prediction is actually that longevity will be in Tiger's favor and that this is precisely what will enable him to leapfrog Jack's 18 professional major record and actually obliterate it. I see Tiger retiring with 25 professional majors and perhaps more.

Having surgerical repair to a knee is not a big deal given today's surgical techniques - even for major damage. These repairs are designed to strengthen/improve athletic performance and durability. The fact that he will be recovered by US Open speaks for itself - it was not a "major" event. I don't see Tiger not being fit to compete - for a long time. The better question is intensity. Too much Money and affluence destroyed Norman's zeal. But Tiger is Tiger. He knows what he has to do, and as far as we can see, he wants it as much as anyone, and most importantly, he knows how to execute under Crushing Pressure far, far better than anyone. Uh, I don't see a minor surgery affecting that. When Tiger plays mediocre (like 2008 Master's), he loses by 1-2 shots. When he plays his game, he wins, Big-Time - no one can compete.

The body does not keep on responding to fitness regimens at a consistent level, nor does the golfswing. Jack Nicklaus set his record playing within himself, and for himself. He kept the ball in play much more consisntly than Tiger does. Every generation thinks 'their golfer' will be the best ever. We'll see what we shall see.

It amazes me, how many people try to cut down successful people. To sit here at try to predict when Tiger might break down physically or mentally - is unfair to him. To say he won't win at 47 is unfair - how do you know. He has accomplished more in his career then most of people on the planet. I don't understand why people can't just sit back and enjoy the ride. He has made the game of golf very exciting - enjoy it.
Why does everybody want to look at ways or reasons that he might not be successful. I was one that thought his focus after his child would be different - it hasn't - he is still winning. Better yet, when he plays he always competes and is a factor over the weekend.
Just sit back and enjoy the ride - don't worry about when and how he is going to breakdown - find something else to write about!

Once again, another sports writer has made the mistake of using comparisons to other athletes when predicting the future for Tiger. When will you guys learn that every once in a while, someone who defies those comparisons comes along. Tiger is such a person. You may have difficulty understanding his abilities, so you deny them, or at least predict that they simply can't continue. I don't know if he'll have longevity or not, but let's just get on the train and enjoy the ride instead of trying to offer proofs that it can't happen. Throughout Tiger's career there have been those who've been proven wrong when talking down his chances. Why set yourself up to look like one of these jealous fools?

I agree with this article and also Johny Millers comments that child progidies tend to age faster just look at Seve Ballesteros - easily as talented as Tiger, the youngest winner of both the Masters and The Open Championship...
Then he lost his confidence when he put his ball in the water at the 15th during the'86 Masters, and missed a short putt in the play off for the '87 Masters, his body broke down (back injury) and he was never the same golfer again
Up until that point it looked like he would win a dozen majors before his time - just read comments made by Trevino and Player about Seve, earily similar to what is said about Tiger now
Having said that I hope Tiger can keep playing for years to come, the PGA Tour this year has seemed quite boring without him!

Who ever wrote yhe article about Tiger may be breaking down in his age I think does not know what he talking about. Tiger has the ability to change his swing to adapt to his his age. He will win a major in his forties, that Ihave no concern with. Just his mental game is so far ahead of his compitition makes up for the fact that he will be aging like everyone does, you will be amazed at what will come from this man well in to the future.

Tiger's health May 20, 2008, 8:05 am

Funny enough, I was touching on this subject in my recent newspaper column. "Life without Tiger"
I agree 1000% that any athlete can have trouble coming back from orthopedic surgery, no matter how good the doctor is, or how routine the procedure. Shitolla happens, as they say.
Look at legendary hockey player, Bobby Orr. Countless surgeries on his knees and the poor guy can barely hobble around now.
Tiger has uku-billions in the bank. Once he has trouble getting out of bed in the morning, he will look at his kids and realize his priorities lie elsewhere and he'll focus on other things...like designing golf courses for Arab sheiks.
He can always arrange his schedule to play "just" the majors...
Which will be a relief to all the other players on Tour...
