| TPC a major? |

Recent TV ads on NBC boldly stated that the TPC already IS golf's 5th major, whether anyone agrees or not. Mr. Fincham must have requested, or at least approved, that proclamation himself. He should take to heart Chad Campbell's policy regarding claims to greatness. "If you have to tell everybody how good you are, maybe you're not that good."

Shaking head - you need to get a life. What is the fettish with Tiger Woods. Personally, I'm fed up with the whole hype. Yeah, he's good but there are other players out there that are good too. What a lousy comment:
"but Mickelson is only a few rungs above the media." Huh? What does this mean? That's a slap in the face to ANY player. Get a grip
The PGA should determine any major tournaments, not TIGER WOODS, PHIL or any other player. What about Pebble, Wachovia? Players speak highly of those events too.

| TPC a major? |

Look, its simple...
British Open = oldest championship.
US Open = oldest championship in the US.
Masters = in a class by itself.
PGA Championship = an event which actually allowed club professionals to participate. Unfortunately, the Tour Players bitched up a storm that "Class A pros were stealing their rightful spots".
So, they created yet another pseudo-major the TPC. and it ain't a major...no way, no how.
TPC is just another tournament...a good one mind you, but no different than any of the others.
Let it be.

1. Golf is the greatest of all sports.
2. Famous for the contestant keeping their own score. Sort of putting a great importance on credibility. Truly a gentleman's sport. This sport doesn't need to be hipped. So I find it extremely irritating when some Bikini wax announcer keeps calling Mickelson "lefty" until others pick on it. It seems that nicknames are not applied many years after the participant starts out.
3. I find it ridiculous that a nickname for the last 3 holes at Sawgras is needed. I understand that "the guantlet" is being considered. Augusta National is a great course authentically original. The only copy-cat is that it has 18 holes like St Andrews. I suggest that if the "powers that be" feel that mimicking Augusta is so important they should name the last 3 holes "Amen Corner East." The game is great and stands alone by itself on it's own merits. That's why it's popularity continues to grow. And the TPC at Sawgrass is a great course and doesn't need any help from the promoters who simply are so greedy that they are losing the core values of golf, as in integrity.
If a course is not difficult enough prestige-wise the play should be done at night without the use of lights.
Thanks,
Eddie the Purest

Do you actually get paid to pander to Tiger Woods like you do? Unbelievable.
Look, why don't you get a job working for him instead?
Tiger to decide what is a major and what isn't? Have you lost your mind completely or can't you stop from drooling whenever Tiger's name is mentioned.
Fact of the matter is that Tiger is an awesome force, but a lot of his dominance is because everyone buys into the hype you and other mindless sensationalists have spouted for too many years. Tiger IS a great player but he will NEVER reach his FULL potential unless he plays against REAL competition (i.e., players who don't soil themselves thinking about Tiger making a charge on Sunday).
Tiger should play in Europe for a few years because, while they respect him, they not afraid of him, which, unfortunately, cannot be said about US PGA Tour professionals...
As you you...grow a pair already.

Shaking head, what a totally idiot comment. It is a tournament like many others. We have 4 which is fine. We don't need 5, then 6, then 7, hell let's make them all majors. Like I said, idiot comments from the same!

I think the whole premise that any one person would decide this is ill founded. The author here is simply trying to stir some contraversy. I would think that perhaps the USGA, the R & A, and perhaps the PGA would determine any change to majors - althought extremely doubtful in our lifetime. Why change the majors anyway?? Is anyone changing the Grand Slam or World Series or Superbowl?

Tim McDonald, you're lucky to have a job writing about golf. With that said, why don't you get on with the task at hand: writing about golf...
If not for Tiger Woods, you may not have a job. Why do you find it necessary to to drag him, his ethnicity and his family into your need for drama?
Typical media sh**...
