Well it seems that the myopic seppos are a touch miffed at the comparatives, tough luck ... life is not always about winning and being first, sometimes its just about being better or being your best.
Ernie, good onya for making the flight to Paris, and enjoy 2008, whether its in Europe or North America

| Els article mentioning Tiger |
October 16, 2007, 3:31 pm |
by Peg
Chris Baldwin must be desperate to receive attention (any attention)as a writer for World Golf.com. What a silly comment about Tiger Woods being compared to Ernie Els and his travel to support his Rugby team. Please mention the time and money that Tiger gives in support of our youth. Talk about his play that brings a whole new fan to watch and play golf. All this with a sincere demeaner. Chris Baldwin should be ashamed of his writing skills if he needs to write insignificant analogies to better his mediocre career. Ask Ernie Els if he likes the story.
Chris, please feel free to email me with your comments!

Els story - utter rubbish. Els was less than medicocre at the President's Cup. Els has been less than mediocre anywhere he has played in the last few years except on the tiny un-competitive European Tour. Get over it, European and British golf writers, you need to get out into the whole world of golf, and whether you like it or not a large part of it is in North America, and broaden your horizons. And references to hockey - the real kind, not the game played on grass, just show your bias and your ignorance. I should know. I am Canadian. And yes, Mike Weir has been less than medicre in the past three years. But two wrong's do not make a right.

| Horrible analogy |

Sorry but your attempt at a football analogy falls far short. John Daly has no analogous counterpart in any sport -- they would be out of the sport quickly if they were.
Tiger has no peer, whereas eventually Manning and Brady will be linked as the two greatest ever. You could probably make a case for Marino and Nicklaus being somewhat analogous. Favre? Perhaps a more talented Lee Trevino.

Saying "If Daly is golf's version of Brett Favre, Els is its Dan Marino" is way off base, especially following your characterizaton of Daly as "all the out-of-control gambling, wasted talent and contrived "regular guy" rep5."
Do you seriously think of Favre as these things. Check out his stats, longevity, genuineness and let readers know how you can see Favre in any way "contrived."

| Ernie Els |

You have to be kidding!! I assume that you actually saw the "depth" of the field at Wentworth - if Els could not win there (his home course)then he could not win anywhere. And, as for his trip to the rugby, where's the big deal about that? The rugby is in Paris, not the other side of the world - you know, just across the Channel!!

I assume you think that when the Americans who are way overrated on the world ranking are not there there is no depth. I believe 2 of this years Major winners were there.
Ah , you mean when Tiger isn't there there is no depth. At least Els plays tournaments all around the world not only the ones that are on courses that suit him.
Besides all that Ernie Els is a much much more likable person then Sulky Woods.

You misunderstand me on a number of counts.
First,my measurement of depth disregards one's nationality - much like the world ranking system does.
Secondly,I was not thinking solely of Tiger, but he sure makes a difference.
You cannot seriously believe that the tournament at Wentworth has much merit in today's golf. Els has come to view that tournament in his back yard as easy money (big money).
You are clearly an Els fan and perhaps less so on Tiger - however, my reading on this game suggests that Hogan was not the most liked guy in the world either - which, kind of makes the likeability question irrelevant.
