Golf junkie October 2, 2007, 4:00 pm

After last week's President's Cup event I must admit there is going to be a bit of a letdown. Watching the best golfers in the world outside Europe and Great Britain was a real thrill!. Some of the best shot making with 20 hole outs from all over the planet and some exciting matches that came down to the wire makes for a truly memorable 4 days. The course, the spectators, the legendary captains and the sportsmanship displayed by all is going to be tough to top at the tail end of this year but it gives us hope that next year will produce another Woody/Steve like revival (who know? maybe Mike Weir) If you had Christmas every day you wouldn't look forward to it nearly as much as you do now.
It's time for hockey and football and maybe the agony of the Q-School but for me golf ended on a very good note even if the Internationals lost the Cup!

although us golf fanatics would love to see Tiger play a little more often, we just want to watch good golf. These players working to keep their card and move up on the money list offer some great golf to watch on TV. There is more pressure on them then there ever is on Tiger. Nothing better for us Canadians than watching golf when it's too cold for us to play. We just dream we could be out there with them.

Toothless without Tiger? October 2, 2007, 2:09 pm

I don't think so. All of the missed events by Mr. Woods have opened my eyes! While Tiger may be the "richest" golfer, and admittedly the best, I am tired of being disappointed by his presence (or lack thereof). I recognize he has to prioritize his life. And I have to prioritize mine. I choose to NOT waste my viewing time doggedly "chasing Tiger". His not playing has reawakened my interest in the LPGA and the Champions tour where especially in the LPGA, Lorena plays nearly every weekend, same for Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis, Julie Inkster, et al. I applaud the fact that the players of these two tours simply go out and play the game without pulling out of tournaments to "send a message" to the tour leaders, or to change diapers.

I am an admitted golf junkie. I usually watch a PGA event every weekend. In past years I have watched nearly every event through the "silly season", though my interest would begin to wane after the PGA championship. The FEDEX Cup has changed that somewhat. I was riveted all four weeks, watchng with nearly the same interest as the majors. Paradoxically, however, I find myself with little or no interest in the "Fall Finish", whereas in past years I had some interest as many of the top twenty continued to compete. I wonder if the added audience for the Cup makes up for what I'm betting is a miniscule audience for the remaining fall tournaments. For myself, I like the new system because I really enjoyed the hoopla and interesting golf that the Cup provided. Plus I can spend the next few weeks watching baseball and football.

I watched what to me was one of the most enjoyable golf events of the year (excepting Padraigs great win at Carnoustie)
What a refreshing change to see a great array of top golfers on TV -and to see them actually play shots.
Normally we just see whoever is in the final pairing +Tiger Woods wherever he may be on the course-which is usually in the final pairing. Result,we seldom get to see anyone else.I think US TV networks are doing a great disservice to the committed golf fans, and indeed to golf itself with their "over the top " coverage of Tiger Woods.
We see him walking between shots, pacing arount on the tee staring into space etc etc.while other players are ignored.
In one revealing moment at East Lake we saw him tee off on the first tee on Sunday, and then just as Calcavechia was on his backswing ,the (my) TV cut to a commercial break.I could not believe it.That certainly was not Tiger's fault ,but it is indicative of where we are at in TV land.In fairness the studio commentator had the good grace to apologise later.Believe me this will all end in tears
So what a change the Presidents Cup was ,with all the players getting their share of coverage and what great entertainment they provided.
Wake up networks before it is too late and give us fans fair coverage of the players in the Tournament.you know what they say about putting all your eggs in one basket!
