Supply & Demand January 12, 2006, 12:52 pm

I'm all for courses charging thier market values - not discounting - I am not an owner - but in the industry.
Those courses are trying to reward play on mon - wed - what is wrong with that - the demand is there on a thursday - I personally wouldn't call it a weekend rate or charge more.
The reason I'm responding is your article was funny as hell.
Thank you.
TGIW!! :) :)

Thursday - Weekend Rates January 12, 2006, 10:12 am

Is there any wonder why with the abundance of nice golf courses that so many are struggling?
Courses that price accordingly so that various types of players can play during the day make their $$$ via volume --
By having an affordable pricing structure, things will take care of themselves!
There are a number of high-end courses nearby who have twilight rates of $60 and are struggling -- It's not hard to figure out why!
Hey, how about having the Head Pro take Marketing 101 -- jeeeeeez!!!
Besides, Weekend means Sat/Sun in the US. Where did these guys go to school????

I've been in Myrtle Beach as a golf course manager & I've never heard of a course using Thursday for weekend rates. A few years ago several courses started discounting rates for PM and Mon.-Weds., but these were discounts not increases.

It sounds like one of those Troon inventions. I've been in the business for 39 years and can't imagine doing something like that. We do adjust slightly higher for the winter season but everyday is great value here in Jamaica, Mon! What's next, a surcharge for Wed afternoons?

Chris, I hardly ever agree with you but on this topic, I agree 100%. I have been a PGA member for 9 years and working in the Golf Business, I would not have the gull to charge extra fees for Thursdays. Get people on the Golf Course however you can. What a joke. Thanks for the good article.

Weekend Golf??? January 12, 2006, 6:07 am

Chris, I will have to admit it and say you are right on concerning this article...it is ridiculous to have to pay the supposed "weekend price" on a Friday for even a sub-par (no pun intended ahahah)course. These courses are sometimes so empty you can play holes over again and they still don't get it... Thanks for the good article..
