What you say is really true. I even mentioned the recent amazing finale to a female colleague golfer and she hadn't even seen the tournament. I was gushing about it--one of the greatest majors I've ever seen--and she didn't have much to say in return, except Oh, you mean the Dinah Shore?. I'm not sure she knew who Karrie Webb was.
Actually, I learn more about the swing watching the women pros play, since their game is more like mine. And now with the talented youngsters, I'm more apt to tune into their tourney than the men's (depending on the importance of the event).
As for this last "Dinah Shore", I'm saving the tape, for viewing 20 years down the road.

Chris, you always write the most amusing articles.........
You must have played one of the Five Little Piggies Who Went to Market!
..and the 5th little piggy (Chris) went crying Wie Wie Wie all the way home!
The big give away that you're a closet Wie and LGPA fan is that YOU WRITE ABOUT BOTH SO MUCH........:)
But we all know that you get rated at work on the hits to your column on the web!!! Keep up the good work!

Personally, I think it comes down to your golf-watching market (mostly men) that don't like to see a hundred women who could all kick our weekend hacker butts with one arm missing and blind-folded. These women are truly talented and I, for one, am envious!

First Reason: Men are immature and find little better to talk about than sports.
Think about it. Men hold on to the pro sports dream as long as they can. When it evaporates, they then latch onto the dream-by-proxy, and talk about sports around the water cooler. Women recognize the feats of their sisters, but have long since rejected the pipe dream for reality. Heck, the ladies don't even form their own tournament pools, like men do. They simply have different things to do.
Women 1, Men 0.
Second Reason: Chris is a moron.
"Even in this supposed golden age of Michelle Wie..." Golden Age? The first year of a professional career is the golden age? Give it some time. If she or any other woman pans out as Tiger did, and if Nike (and only Nike can, as they transcend individual sports) markets the woman properly, you will see unique things happen.
Women 2, Men 0.
Guys, we're getting killed.

They're depending on a 16 yr old to be their main marketing tool. A 16 yr old who has WON NOTHING! But just in case... LPGA marketing must have learned their craft from the Chicago Blackhawks/NHL.

You are absolutely right. Even my men golfing friends who are avid sports watchers of everything didn't bother or care to watch.....Michelle who? So much for marketing...
