I agree. I have been really struggling with 20 - 40 meter pitch shots. Fatting, thinning everyshot. I tried the other day just closing my eyes, and to my amazement I hit 10 crisp pitch shots in a row. I'm a single figure handicap player so I guess that I know in my subconsious how to swing the club, but when i try and actually hit the ball by looking at it my mind takes over and messes it up. Now I need to try and take it to the course. I might try playing a round and chiping and pitching with my eyes closed. It would be an interesting experiment!
