Our Winner

I have the placer to know the winner in 1967 , Don Roberto De Vicenzo , now he walks every day into the installations of the Ranelagh Golf Club - Argentina.
The most important quality is his personality , because he never lose his smile and good way to proceed , is our mentor and father , and is the example to follow for anyone who wishes to become a good golfer.
This is my tribute , respectfully

golf scores rise in 1880s

I'm curious as to why single round scores of golf in the British open were routinely below 60 between 1860 and 1880s. By the mid 1880 the scores are more reflective of today's common single round scores where hardly any pro scores are under a 60. What changed so dramatically?

The Open Championship was held for the first 12 years at Prestwick Golf Club - the course consisted of 12 holes!
• 1860 - At the augural, a field of eight Scottish professionals played three rounds of Prestwick's twelve-hole course in a single day.
• Willie Park won with a score of 174 for 36 holes winning the Championship Challenge Belt, donated by the Earl of Eglinton.

The early British Opens were held at Prestwick, which only had 12 holes until the 1880s

Can you provide info on the field fromt those decades or point me to a site where I can find it?
Thanks,

British Open 1966 and 1967

Hiya - my dad has been recording the British Open Championship scores since 1968. He sits with his wee book and records all the scores! I know it sounds a bit sad but he loves it! Do you happen to have the last 2 round scores (for everyone) for 1966 and 1967?? Your site told me who won these but he would like all the scores. He would be eternally grateful and so would I as he seems to think the internet should know everything!! Many thanks and best wishes, Audrey Montgomery
