Great Course and Great Island August 8, 2007, 3:44 pm

by Tim Andrews
My wife and I just returned from our 4th trip to Molokai in 3 years. We love the island and the getaway that it offers from the rest of Hawaii. Although Molokai isn't as polished as Maui or Kauai, it still offers plenty of relaxation and the golf course is just fine. 15 holes have ocean views and the front 9 are in stark contrast to the back 9, allowing for players with various skill levels to show their strenghth.
This course is a diamond in the rough, and I'm thrilled that it's finally getting some airtime.
There's another course in the hills above a coffee plantation that is a real fun play. 9 holes of rolling fairways and great views.
The people on Molokai are generally friendly; the lack of bulk tourism means some of the folks are a bit narrow-minded, but there are plenty of people on Molokai who welcome outsiders and make it a great place to visit.

When the Molokai Ranch steal water from the Native Hawaiians to water their golf course while leaving the Kaluakoi hotel in shambles, the public should be warned that they are contributing to the problems for the Native People and the local residents which have been caused by the greed of foriegn developers and a long period of drought. Take your clubs elsewhere. Our courses cannot be as lush and green as elsewhere. Molokai wishes to keep its secrets to itself.
