Wie Agrie ! August 3, 2005, 4:17 am

Couldn't agree more with the fact that Michelle Wie is not being 'raised' to become a golf champion, but more 'handled' like a show dog. Protected, sheltered, and put on display all over the world. Dogs like to be Dogs and Kids like to be Kids. Michelle is still a kid and needs to compete with her peers. You also need to play games because you love the game, period. Golf is still a 'game' for a 15-year old, not a job. If you're constantly placed into events that are over your head and told "that's OK, you weren't expected to exceed anyway", then that's the behavior you learn. You become conditioned to lose. The Wie's are worried about protecting Michelle's psyche like a piece of fragile china, but may not realize that they could have already broken it. Sure, she has sponsors waiting in the wings, but they better grab as much as they can early, because she is not being set-up for the future as a champion.

Michelle is a kid but a kid that has outgrown playing with other kids. You have a lot of kids who skip grades in school because they are academically more advanced than other kids. Some even skip high school and go straight to college. Why? Because to keep them with their peers would be stifling their education. Michelle would gain nothing playing amateur tournaments. She was set to play the Women's Amateurs until the British Open extented an invitation to play in England. How many amateur golfers would turn down a chance to play in the British Open? None. Morgan Pressel included. Not to rip on Morgan because I'm sure she is a nice girl.
And Michelle plays because she is having fun and because she loves the game of golf. Nobody is forcing her to play and nobody forces her to play pro touraments. Michelle does what Michelle thinks is right for her and she should. Its not important what you or I think she should do.
Michelle has stated that her goal is not to win 50 tournaments like Tiger. She wants to be the first to do things that other female golfers have not, like playing with the men. She wants to be a pioneer. Can she? Who knows. But it is her right to try.
All this talk about she being conditioned to lose is ridiculous. If you look at her results playing pro tournaments from last year to this year, she has improved drastically. So she has not won yet. Neither have most of the women on the pro tour who have been playing for years. How many of them have come in second and third in two of the four majors in the same year? Very few. But none of this really matters to Michelle. She's just having fun doing what she loves to do. PLAY GOLF.
Most of you people criticizing Michelle don't know what you are talking about so you should just chill out. Its really none of our business how she lives her life.

You missed one thing about moving kids up in school. They must prove themselve first. They don't just move them up because they're taller than the other kids or can run faster or jump higher. Wie should have moved up after proving herself. She's a great talent and has missed out on a lot of experience that could have already taught her how to win. But because of the focus on money she's missed that part. Now while she learning how to win the other juniors that have come up through the ranks are going to fly by her.

Excellent response! She needs to learn how to win properly and lose graciously. No covers or excuses if tournaments don't go in her direction.

Since when has there been a formula for winning properly? Michelle has always been gracious in defeat. She doesn't cry or blame anyone but herself after a loss. It seems you don't know anything about Michelle or what you are talking about.

I agree with everything Chris and Morgan Pressel said about Wie.
Her marketing stratagies by her father may backfire. She will not keep getting PGA exemptions unless she wins some LPGA events even if it is an amateur.
Pressel is right on when she said Wie chocked when close at the John Deere and Open.
Pressel is a 4.0 student at St. Andrews H.S. and scored an 890 out of a possible 900 on SAT. She missed one question.
Go Morgan and Creamer. You are the cream at the top.

Hmmmm...about 10 million a year in just two endorsements from Nike and Sony...so much for your bigoted slant on a great girl who never criticizes or hits back at her detractors. It's not how you win or lose..it's how you play the game...and in the game of life, Michelle knows the rules a lot better than Morgan Pressels....
