I agree with you that golf shouldn't be in the Olympics, but not for the same reasons. Golf isn't a sport! it's a skill/game. A "sport" requires some physical exertion! Show me any other "sport" where you can drink beer, smoke and be 100 lbs. overweight and get paid a million bucks to win a tournament? I'm a avid golfer and love the game, but I don't put it in the "sport" category, not by a long shot! I'll give you, it requires great skill to be as good as the PGA players but let's not get confused, it's a game! The only reason these guys sweat is because they are 50-100 lbs. overweight and they have to walk in 90% humidity! Hell, they don't even carry their own bags, They're just WALKING and sweating like pigs! Tell me that's an athlete!

You reached the right conclusion that golf does not belong in the Olympics, but for the wrong reasons. The real reason it does not belong is that golf is already played on a worldwide stage and its major tournaments are watched by a global audience. Pole-vaulting and other sports that don't have a world championship with global media attention need the Olympic games as the ultimate forum for their sport.

I disagree with your rational. I think Golf would be great in the Olympics IF it is kept to amateur status ONLY! NO PROS!
If you will note, most amateur golfers in this country are from well-to-do families where the kids spend most of their free time golfing and nothing else. So it would be from other countries. Just like in amateur golf events in the US NO PROS! Therefore golf would and should be a great addition to the Olympics, as would soft ball. A good fast softball pitcher is more fascinating to watch than a pro baseball pitcher.
Thanks

You goofball, the whole "amateur" thing long ago disappeared from all but the most minor of Olympic sports. I agree that there's no reason to add golf, but you're reasoning is way off base.
As for softball - we're talking about women's fastpitch and that's every bit as athletic as golf. Softball and baseball have been in the Olympics for awhile but lost their place on the schedule when they decided to do some housecleaning a couple of years ago. Now they have to apply for reinstatement as each quadrennial rolls around.

Softball is a SPORT you dimwit, it is very intertaining...you need to watch mor of it..I agree that golf should not be an Olympic Sport for the reasons you gave..the only way it would be good, is if the use only College players, or a non pro...but that will never happen...once again SOFTBALL is a SPORT

you've obviously never had to hit a seventy mi an hour softball thrown at you from 43 feet if you think it isn't a sport. However I do agree with you on the matter of golf not becoming an olympic sport......

I support the idea of having golf as an olympic sport as long as the participants are amateurs. I think that golf could grow more in world stature as a non-elitist sport if the amateur's success can be celebrated through such an event. It should help the game in the long run.
