| Make Oakmont Harder??? |

by pgamike
What I heard, was that the USGA was making Oakmont slow their greens down for the tournament, and mow the rough. The last time that a major was held at Oakmont, a member was quoted as saying, "If you think the course was tought for the tournament, you should come to our 3 day member-guest. Oakmont isn't tricked up for the Open, it is just a really, really hard course. The tour golfers should just be happy that they aren't members there! The members have to play that monstrous course every day!

If the course is as tough as you say, then the cream should rise to the top. The best of the best should shine. Not some driving range pro from Texas. Get a grip, it should be tough. It’s the US OPEN. It’s a MAJOR. All the Majors should be as tough as possible. I don’t want to see someone shoot 21 under to win a Major.

Sorry, I disagree. All the players are playing the same course setup. Let the one who can figure out how to overcome it succeed, no matter who it may be.

If you want the same golf that is played every weekend you know those 21 and 25 under par scores on courses set up for them. The pro's should have to play demanding golf. Remember this is only 4 or 5 times a year. I think that if they cry about courses they should remember what kind of courses the once a week golfer has to play. Please it is just not right for these golfer to play golf on every course that is set up for them to score.

Congratulations USGA!The Oakmont, or any other US Open or Major course, should TEST all of the SKILLS of these PRO golfers.Well boys - suck it up.This week will show all fans who truly has their game in control. They can then relate to us weekend warriors as we struggle with our game. I as a mid handicap and fan am tired of golf courses cowtowing to the Pros' most minute complaints, reacting to their desire of using the big stick, greens the size of football fields, and final scores lower every week. Give only cheese to the whiners, they don't deserve any more attention than that. Perhaps at the end they'll understand that Johnny Miller's feat was his total game, not a fluke as I've heard lately.Let's hope we see them PLAY-we will then truly enjoy the result.

So it gonna be hard for the pro's. They have it so bad, millions to play golf and some unknown may win the championship because he knows how to over come diversity better then the coddled.
The US Open is golf the way us average Joe's see it everyday. Doubles and triples are a part of golf just as much as birdies and eagles!

Clueless as usual, Chris. If you want a birdie binge, go watch the Nationwide. It's the USGA's show and par should be the benchmark. Fact, is, par at Oakmont is really about 76. These guys can handle it, and as with any tournament, you've got to have a big slice of guts to go with that "luck" to prevail.
By the way, the Sopranos finale was perfect, if you're a true aficianado. And I've lived in Reno for 24 years and have yet to meet a laid-off refrigerator salesman at the poker tables.

So I guess Gossen's luck must be exceptional; he not only lucked out once but twice. Guess that makes Tiger the luckiest golfer on the planet; to shatter so many U S Open records. The harder the course the better. If the course is unfair it is unfair to all the players.

Even Chris Baldwin is entitled to his opinion, but most of us enjoy seeing the PGA pros have one tournament during the season when the players aren't pampered by perfect golf courses and assisted by the crowd in keeping balls in play.
And -- it is fun for we duffers when we play courses that we can say have "U.S. Open rough!

The PGA and PGA Tour have nothing directly to do with the US Open.
