"Grumpy Phil" March 9, 2005, 6:34 am

by Frank
Let's back off the dramatic description of grumpy Phil. Yes he missed 4 opportuntites to win the tornament, but at least he had good things to say about Tiger prior to Sunday's round. While Tiger completely bridged the question on playing with Phil. Both are great players. Let's give them their due and respect. How would you feel if you walked a mile in Phil's shoes. Lay off his children! That was a classless statement that could have only been made by someone who has never had children. By the way Tiger's attitude to me by bridging the question on Phil came across as " one more cracker to defeat". That is all I have to say about That

I am a fan of both Woods and Mickelson and thuroughly enjoyed sundays showdown at Doral. Being a weekend golfer myself and knowing the pressure of playing with friends for chump change and clubhouse bragging rights I can not begin to fathom the enormous pressure these two world class athletes must have felt during their match. They both tried their hardest and both performed to their fulliest that day and the spectators certainly got their money's worth. To say that Phil choked is a cruel statement because he missed a couple of putts when at the 18th his chip was nothing short of brilliant and almost tied for a play off. Tiger nust be very grateful as I am also to finally have the media off his back as we see his swing changes and hard work begin to pay off I look forward to a very exciting season of golf as these two golfers along with all the other PGA tour players entertain us with wonderful shot making that we weekend hackers can only dream about and not tear them down when they dont perform to our high standards. Maybe the media should first walk a mile in their shoes before throwing stones.

RE: Again Tiger won by "Delay of Game" tactics March 9, 2005, 10:46 am

Whenever I see Tiger in a head to head battle he does the same thing. He takes "forever" to hit a shot, especially putts. It always puts stress on the player that has to hit after someone takes an unusually long time to play a shot. This seems to be intentional dating back to one of his US Amateur wins where (I don't remember exactly but it must have taken over 4 hours for the twosome to play the final 18 holes)

I agree. It was almost unbareable to wait while Tiger strolled back and forth and consulted with his caddy. We could have at least been treated to a shot or two from other players while we were waiting. Isn't there supposed to be a penalty for undue delay ?
By the way.....the TV coverage was quite poor. I'd like to have seen someone like Zach Johnson hit a few shots. There were other players with interesting stories that could have filled some of the "slow" gaps.

Come on. What the heck is wrong with you? It's a competition and one wins and one doesn't. Phil played great and missed a putt but that's not "choking". Just the opposite to birdie the next two holes after T's eagle. Very, very poor analysis and stupid comments about Phil's children.

frank ,you frankly do not have a clue when it comes to reporting golf, you probably werent there ,phil didnt choke,he had tiger on the ropes after he responded with birdies at 13 and 14 ,i dont call that choking when you choke its when you cant respond after tigers eagle and by the way tigers missed put at 16 opened the doors ,phils put was well ,hit ,another hint of no choke at 16 ,,tigers putt at 17 was agreat one ,phils drive and iron were superb at 18 ,and his chip almost went in,at 18 that was great golf from 2 great players ,in an environment called golf which can be plagued by mistakes ,you dont get it start ,reporting facts not baloney, yours truly, someone that knows,,,,
