On a corner of the Georgia coast, well-known for its natural beauty and on an Island famed for its golf, is a remarkable course unlike any other - The Hampton Club at Hampton Plantation on St. Simons Island, Ga.
The Hampton Club is widely acclaimed to be more than a golf course, but a stroke of genius!
Once the site of an 18th-century cotton plantation Hampton Plantation the Hampton Club is situated on 300 acres of oaks and pines at the northernmost tip of St. Simons Island. St. Simons is one of Georgia's famed Golden Isles, a quiet barrier island beloved by visitors and residents. It was here in 1989, that the imaginative genius of renowned course architect Joe Lee shaped the emerald expanse of The Hampton Club.
The Hampton layout brings ancient oaks, lakes, lagoons or tidal marshlands into view or play on virtually every hole. Unique in all of golf are the Club's four signature holes-Nos. 12, 13, 14 and 15. Here, golfers literally go out of bounds, along 800 feet of elevated cart paths that span creek and marsh, to face the challenge of these spectacular golf holes carved from small island's (called hammocks) located off the Plantation's mainland.
These holes as well as the entire 6000+ yard layout, where challenge and reward come in equal measure, have prompted praise form the nation's most prestigious golf publications including Golf Magazine which placed The Hampton Club among its "Top Ten New Resort Courses" the very first year it opened for play. Since then, numerous publications have continued to site the Club for its stunning beauty and brilliant layout.
The course's club house, overlooking Butler Lake, welcomes golfers with its low country architecture and relaxed atmosphere. The pro shop offers every necessary service, from club fitting to PGA professional instruction and golf wear while the Club's dining room features cuisine as delightful as are its views of the course. Men's and women's locker facilities, a driving range, putting green, club storage/rental complete the picture of this premier golf club.
The Hampton Club warmly welcomes non-member play, year 'round. Simply contact the pro shop for available tee-times. Memberships at The Hampton Club are available in several types and include a variety of special member services, benefits and activities. For complete membership information, contact the Clubhouse.
The Hampton Club is located on the northernmost tip of St. Simons Island, Georgia. St. Simons Island is situated midway between Savannah, Ga. and Jacksonville, Fla. and is just minutes off I-95 at Exits 29, 36 and 38. The area is also served by daily jet service (into nearby mainland Brunswick, Georgia) via ASA/The Delta Connection. The international airports in Savannah and Jacksonville are approximately one hour away by car.
